I have been seeking answers to several questions and have turned to psychics for answers. I use their guidance for insight – and determine if their statements are worth considering. I am curious if contacting psychics for an opinion is considered a sin. If so, is it a mortal sin or venial sin?

It’s against the first Commandment: http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p3s2c1a1.htm

As a sin against the first commandment it shouldn’t be taken lightly, but is a matter for Confession.

"2115 God can reveal the future to his prophets or to other saints. Still, a sound Christian attitude consists in putting oneself confidently into the hands of Providence for whatever concerns the future, and giving up all unhealthy curiosity about it. Improvidence, however, can constitute a lack of responsibility.

2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future.48 Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone."

God bless you and keep you safe in His love in trust.

Do not engage in further contact with that garbage. Demons are the only presence behind these supposed revelations! Read Fr. Amorths books. Trust in God.

The spiritual world is legalistic. There are rules just like there are laws in our world. God wrote the laws and God enforces them.

Oh no! Don’t turn to the supernatural for answers. Turn to God’s Word instead. In it, you will find the answers to all of your questions and won’t have to worry about whether you’re sinning or not.

I left a toxic work environment where my bosses bullied and ridiculed me. I was depressed, getting sick, and wanted to end my life. So instead of dealing with the pain, I left my job with little notice.

I was a supervisor and feel bad about those who reported to me. I am trying to find out how they are doing because I care for them. I have prayed daily for weeks – months – for enlightenment, but have not received any indication of how they are faring. Since I have not been able to obtain any kind of updates, I am tempted to find out their status through other means.

I know that the police and non-Catholic Christians go to psychics when they cannot get answers. Also, some saints, such as Padre Pio, apparently had psychic abilities. So why does the Church have such an anti-psychic view, when Devil worship is not even concerned?

You need to let go, forgive and move forward in your life. Your desire to know how your colleagues are is like that of a grieving widow who visits the medium, “I just want to know my husband is okay!”

God gave you free will, he also gave you the Bible. Knowledge comes, but wisdom lingers.

As I previously stated, the spiritual world is legalistic. Conferring with a medium one does not know what their spiritual background is - it could be witchcraft, new age, generational satanic or just in it for the money and make things up as they go along. It is who the medium call’s upon is the real concern. Satan just doesn’t play fair.

These articles are a good read and may help you

We are not responsible for what the police or non-Catholic Christians do. As Catholics and as Christians, we do have charge over what we do. The Catholic Church agrees with God’s written Word, the Holy Bible. And this is what the Holy Bible has to say on the matter.

Deuteronomy 18:10-12 (RSVCE)

10 "There shall not be found among you any one who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, any one who practices divination, a soothsayer, or an augur, or a sorcerer,

11 or a charmer, or a medium, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

12 For whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord; and because of these abominable practices the Lord your God is driving them out before you."

For me, it’s cut and dried. God says these things are an abomination. Anything that is an abomination to the Lord is something I don’t need to be involved with. No Christian does.

As I said before, turn to God’s Word for the answers you seek. And pray for God to give you His peace. He will.
