I recently started making rosaries and have found myself conflicted. I am a newly converted catholic. I sold 2 rosaries to a friend who gave them to his friend on Instagram. He is a gun developer and has began taking pictures with guns. He also has taken pictures with military patches. I guess the reason I am conflicted is because I support the military and believe the rosary is a spiritual weapon so it is fitting in a way. I’m considering having him stop tagging me in his post but I wont be able to stop him from doing what he will with them since he is now the owner. Any help with this dilemma would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I guess my issue comes from this. While not for fashion you could call guns profane.

“The Catholic religious document the Code of Canon Law reads: “Sacred objects, which are designated for divine worship by dedication or blessing, are to be treated reverently and are not to be employed for profane or inappropriate use even if they are owned by private persons.” So, to more conservative members of the Catholic Church, wearing rosary beads as a fashion object removes the rosary’s sacredness and transforms the object from sacrament to fashion accessory.”

I’m still not getting your point…

Is this individual taking pictures with guns and rosaries?

I’m confused. Is the guy wearing the rosary as a “fashion accessory”? Is there any suggestion he is not praying the Rosary regularly and devoutly?

We have had threads on this before and many of us wear a rosary around our necks for reasons other than fashion. Some people like to have their rosary close at hand and that is the best way to do so. I often do not carry a purse and even when I do, I like to have the rosary on my person in a way that it won’t fall off and be lost so I can pray while driving for example, so I put it either around my neck or on my wrist.

There is nothing inherently bad about guns or military and as someone said there are currently a lot of military themed and law enforcement themed rosaries available, because people in those professions often feel a need to pray.

While people on here do have a point, and we’re not sure whether he’s taking picture with the rosary and the gun, which might irk some Catholics who are sensitive to gun control, I’d like to give some advice on handling any similar issues in regards to a friend.

Let him know how you feel. If you don’t want to be tagged, be honest about it. Deliver your feelings with charity and love, and pray for the best. If he is doing something offensive with the rosary, tell him that too. Show him that quote from the Canon Law and talk about your faith.
