Other people are okay with me using their discount cards, or would be okay with it if I asked (since they aren’t damaged by me using it and they didn’t have to pay for said card). Given that, are companies okay with that too?

Are cashiers alright with this -I ask because I’m tired of being called by a different name at the market.

Which reminds me, is lying over and over again about something small a mortal sin?

What kind of discount card?

The kind that grocery stores give you for free to encourage you to shop there?

If I do not have one…I ask them they use the ‘store card’ for the same discount.

(in fact they usually ask me…and use it if I do not have one…)

tis free…

Using someone else’s employee discount card, sinful.
Using someone else’s frequent shopper card, just get your own, or buy a shirt with the cardholder’s name on it.

yeah, the free “store card”.

I work at a grocery store. I don’t care who’s card you use. I just want everyone who has a card to have it ready at the beginning of the transaction.

If you have lost your card and need to give a phone number please say it like this:

(2. 3. 4.) 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 1. 1.

and not like this.

Why not just go to the store and fill out the form for one? It takes less than 2 minutes and then you wont have to feel bad and you will get all of your own discounts. You said it’s the free card so what’s the big deal?

But I’m not entirely sure I know that my feeling guilty is justified or not -which is why I’m asking these questions.

If the it doesn’t matter who has a card -then why do companies make a big deal about people signing up for one -the cards are apparently quite alienable.

The “free” store cards though do come with advantages to the card holder though. Discounts and points for future purchases, free gas with some grocery store chains, etc. So there may be a reason why people don’t mind you using their card, they may be reaping a benefit. You could be getting those same benefits or rewards if you had your own card.

I’m not an expert in these things, but I would think the store doesn’t care who is using the card, as long as you’re doing business at the store. Its bringing you into their store and not their competition.

So can I assume that everyone at the store basically knows about this?

A loyalty card is a trade between the card holder and the company. The company gives you a discount, a rewards program or a sale and you give the company an electronic way to track your purchases. The information they receive from your discount card is used to understand how you shop so that the company can advertise and market their products to you. The businesses can also sell that information to other marketing companies.

So wait, is using someone else’s store card lying, or stealing? If it is, can doing these things repeatedly make it a mortal sin?

I don’t think so, since I’m sure the companies must’ve caught on by now that the cards are used by multiple people.

as a business owner I frequently use Discounts for valued clients. I am a small-small business owner. I use discounts as a way to say thanks. every once in a while someone will give the discount or complimentary service to someone else. When I use these to say thank you, its for someone I see fairly regularly. It does cost me money to do it. But I am still making more off of the client I gave it to.
When its given to someone I’ve never provided service for, I have to do an in depth intake. This costs me even more time and money. So no, I don’t care for it when someone else uses it.
When I was in retail, we had two different discount programs. One to get people in the door, and one to reward people for coming in. If it’s the former type of program, I don’t see a problem. If it’s the latter, that could be different.

I work for a major retailer and they do not like it when someone else uses your discount card the only other persons who can use it are your family members that you can claim on you income taxes and they have to be on record with human resources. Infact now we have our pictures on them so no one else can use them and if some one has dependents such as a husband wife or minor children they each have their own discount card with their picture on it.anyway that is how it works at my place of employment. But if it is a grocery store card for specials in the grocery store like another post said why not fill out an application for your own card and reap the benefits of it.

If it is the Employee Discount,
my company allows me to use it for purchases for myself,
purchases I make AS GIFTS TO anyone I choose.

However, I am absolutely forbidden to allow relatives
to make purchases using my employee discount.
And I am forbidden to make purchases FOR my
relatives IF they are going to re-imburse me for the purchase(s).

I was just telling you how it works so that you would understand why they give the cards and why they would want every person to have their own.

It’s not sinful but it seems silly that if you are so worked up about it but you don’t want to take the 30 seconds to sign up for your own card. If it bothers you just get your own.

Well it just seems to me that using a card that is supposed to give out the information of only the official holder seems to be lying to a company -unless the company already knows that its cards represent someone else.
