mystified

This may have been answered before, but I can’t find it.

I read that some time ago, Rome determined that Orders in the various churches identifying themselves as Old Catholic and/or stemming from the schism of Utrecht in the 1800s are vaid.

This doesn’t seem quite right, particularly in those bodies “ordaining” women, divorced and remarried men and women, and others who for any reason cannot be ordained in the Catholic Church.

I ask this because I recently unknowingly attended a house “Mass” celebrated by a “priest” from an Old Catholic congregation that I had not before heard of in the area. When I talked with a priest in the local Latin Rite parish, he said the man was “probably” a real priest and that the Mass would have also been real.
