Not really sure where this post belongs but I felt compelled to share.

I live in the Bible belt and am married to a Protestant who isn’t keen on raising the kids Catholic. I pray everyday that he will change his mind and am hopeful that this will change. Before my daughter began vacation Bible school at my Catholic parish (she had attended one at the Baptist church with the neighbors earlier in the month) I prayed and prayed that even at 4 years old a seed would be planted and she would really get something out of her time there. Tonight is her last night there and I can say that every night that prayer has been answered. Of course she hasn’t come home and said “Gee Mom, I really wanna be Catholic” but I can see that an interest and appreciation for some very Catholic things has begun.
So far this week I have learned the story of St. Jerome from her, she’s told me that Peter was given the keys to the Church, explained with her crayon drawings what a monstrance and chalice are for, the when’s, where’s and why’s of genuflecting,She’s even begun to say the Our Father with some help.We haven’t passed a cross outside of a church of any denomination that she doesn’t point out is missing Jesus. I heard nothing other than the fact that Pastor George was “gonna kiss a pig!!” when she attended the first VBS. I’m not faulting the Baptist church or implying the Catholic church did a better job, I’m just in awe of how my prayers were answered by hearing my 4 year old begin to “speak Catholic”. Please pray for my family that we continue to work through our differences and that my daughters experience this week will have as profound an effect on my husband as it has had on me.

:sad_yes:Yes, yes it is. Unfortunately I wasn’t spiritually on the right path when we married. I’ve returned to the Church since then but my previous choices have paved a rocky way for me going forward…:ouch:

My advice would be to pick a faith tradition and raise your daughter in that exclusively.

Church hopping is only going to confuse and weaken her faith in Christ. If you are going to raise her baptist then do so. If you are going to raise her Catholic then raise her Catholic.

The “What religion should we raise our child?” question should have been considered before birth. To keep exposing her to opposing beliefs is only going to cause strife between her and her father and between you and your husband.

Talk about this in detail with your husband and make a solid, lifelong, decision.

Gospel of Matthew 19:13-15:
Blessing of the Children

Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked them,

but Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

After he placed his hands on them, he went away.

I wasn’t a practicing Catholic before the kids were born. It wasn’t until a few years ago when we actively began seeking a church home that I realized there was no other place for me but the Catholic church. My husband is a believer but not a practicioner…he’s not really sure where he stands. I don’t push to hard because I know that we were on the same page to begin with and now I’ve changed things, not really fair to him. Though it does bother me that he doesn’t know where he stands religously but won’t let me take the reigns. All I can do is pray and be a good example for all of them .

This summer the Catholic church here and the Lutheran church will be partners in a Vacation Bible School Program.
