I would love to take a vacation either by myself or with my grandchildren that includes mission work. Example: I know the protestants have a trip that takes them on a doctor’s boat down the Amazon River. This wouldn’t be appropriate for my grandchildren but I would love to instill in them (ages 13-11-6) the love of the church thru her mission work. Trips in the U.S. would be cheaper with the grandkids but for me alone, I would love to travel the world. Any information is appreciated and your prayers to be able to afford this is also appreciated. Thank you.😃

I would suggest contacting your local Catholic Charities or Catholic Relief Services (for outside of the US) if you want to find a group going somewhere. I know that groups went from our diocese in TX to Louisiana within the last year to help rebuild Catholic schools/buildings in New Orleans. There are a lot of Catholic treasures in the devastated areas that we might lose if we don’t repair them and support the Catholics who returned to the area.

My parish has a really organized Mexico mission trip every summer for our high school students that allows adults (who have been through the background check, safe environment training and approved by the youth ministers) to go as chaperones. They have built chapels/churches for the Diocese of Linares. They are finishing off a new convent for some contemplative nuns who had become surrounded by a noisy town. The other groups in the parish such as the Knights, carnival, etc help to raise the funds for building supplies while the teens raise the money to pay their own way and to support the trip. Perhaps you can find a trip like this through your diocese even if it is not your actual parish sponsoring.

Youth Heart of Work mission trips
CFCA mission trips for those who sponsor children or elderly in their projects
Glenmary Fathers, used to be called Connective Ministries, now has a new name I forget, but an Appalachian work trip, program geared toward parishes, but you could introduce it to your parish.
Heifer International, has farm experiences for families in US, and also trips to international projects (not Catholic but a very worthy organization)
contact Claretians in Chicago, they have some mission experiences.
the bishops publish a guide each year of volunteer and mission opportunities, and it is broken down by those for various age groups, families etc. when my brain gets in gear I will find the name for you, but try their website.
try Catholic Relief Services as well for links to orders, sites that have such programs.

you might contact dioceses on the Mexican border–Brownsville, Laredo, El Paso, further west–for mission trips into Mexico such as that described above. During spring break we had college kids, high school kids, and families working on the interiors of homes that have been built in Mexico by Winter Texans during the season. the Spring Breakers finish the interiors, build bunks, tables and furniture, and finish roofing and other detail work. We have some families who have been coming every year.

Thank you for your responses, it definitely gave me new places to look.👍
