Valid Confession Question

Hi all,

For the record, I think I suffer from some mild scruples. I made a confession today with a good intention of communicating what I did and did in fact state what I did. However, what I did was so stupid that I have a hard time understanding why I did it (I think I’m not being totally honest with myself, but also am not sure if I’m just tricking myself). Is it enough that I confessed the action of what I did even though I’m sorta of muddled about why I did it?

Yes, confessing the action is sufficient as long as you are contrite.
 
St. Paul wrote, “I do that which I would not do and do not do that which I would.” I would say that St. Paul was “muddled” at times. If the great saint did not understand why he did the things he did, why should any of us expect to understand all our actions.?
 
Thanks to both of you. I definately was contrite (I literally felt ill the next day after really thinking about what I’d done). Knowing that even the saints were confused or ashamed behind their motivation for what they did makes me feel not so stupid 🙂
