Help!

I find myself to be a very scrupulous individual. Today, I believe that my spiritual counselor (and confessor) was out of town. So I went to another priest for confession. Now, my spiritual counselor and I had agreed that I would only confess certain mortal sins and not venial sins due to my scrupulousity. However, when I went to confession today with a DIFFERENT PRIEST, I didn’t follow this and deliberately consented to confessing something that was not a mortal sin. Does this invalidate my confession?

I feel like I’m in such a mess!

Help!

Obviously we can’t give you a clear cut answer based on the lack of details we have.

However, unless you were not contrite and you were not purposely misleading, your confession was valid.

All you did was not follow guidelines to help you fell less anxiety. The consequence is that you feel more anxiety. This is not a mortal sin, so be at peace - God loves you!

in no way shape or form could you invalidate your confession by confessing a sin you committed. please allow yourself the peace you have found in relying on one spiritual director and bring these questions directly to him. no third party is going to be of any help to you in such concerns. we are praying for you.

I’ll just add that since you’re scrupulous, you really should only confess to your regular confessor. It’s for your own spiritual good.
