Is it valid if the priest says “May Jesus Christ absolve you…” but then adds “and I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit”. I’d say so, cause the essential words are there, as is the intent. Just wanted to check though - am I correct?

Since you are clearly scrupulous this is a question you should ask of your Confessor / Spiritual Director , not us

Yes, it appears that it was.

The required words are “I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”.
As long as the priest says these words he is free to say whatever else he wants.

I won’t see my spiritual director for maybe a couple more months…

and the priest I was confessing to used the formula I gave above…

that’s why I asked here 🙂
