Valid Marriage?

Is a marriage valid if two people are in a state of mortal sin? Say they are having sex and using birth control before they marry? I know the validity of a sacrament is not dependent on the worthiness of the officiator, but I’d like some clarification on the topic…

I’m sure the “worthiness of the officiator” principle continues even when the couple themselves are the ministers of the sacrament. The only things at issue are their being free to marry, intent to lifelong marriage and to accept children. Certainly, knowing about the nature of their sin casts doubt upon these but we cannot judge the validity of the sacrament on that alone.
 
The marriage is valid. Lack of being not in the state of grace is not (name removed by moderator)ediment to marriage. However, grace is blocked by mortal sin. Once they return to the state of grace they enjoy the graces that come with the Sacrament.

The same as for Confirmation.
 
Corki nailed it … valid but has the flow of graces blocked.
