My parish has a 7 PM Mass on Sundays. Is this valid to fulfill the Sunday obligation?

It seems a little weird to me if we can have mass at 5 PM on Saturday and at 7 PM on Sunday.

Thanks,
Penitant

I don’t see why not? If it is Sunday, it is Sunday.
and I can’t see anything weird with having Mass at 5 on Saturday and 7 on Sunday.

Well in this fine town we have a church that offers an 8pm Sunday Mass - and one over near the hospital which, for shiftworkers and loved ones of the patients, offers a ‘last call’ Mass at 10.30 PM :bigyikes: on Sundays.

Anything between 4pm Saturday and Midnight on Sunday is fine. The ‘vigil’ concept doesn’t apply to every liturgical day, only major feasts such as Christmas and Easter, Sundays and other Holy Days.

Sunday is rather special [excpe a noted for major feasts like Christmas, ect.]

Look at the practice of the Liturgy of the Hours. There is Monday Morning Prayer and Monday Evening Prayer. This is the same Monday through Friday. It follows our normal method of counting time as if it was from midnight to midnight.

However, come Saturday there is only Saturday Morning Prayer, no Saturday Evening Prayer. What you have in its place is Sunday Evening Prayer I. On Sunday you have Sunday Morning Prayer and* Sunday Evening Prayer II*

Sunday is the Lord’s day and every Sunday is a ceebration of Easter and as such it is a feast day. I always think of it as there is no Saturday eveing in Liturgical time and as Resurrection people we celebrate Easter for really long day.

We have 10 Masses on Sundays starting 5.30 am with the last one at 8.30 pm. All fulfill the Sunday obligation as does our 6 pm Saturday Mass.

College campus Newman centers frequently will have late masses, even 9pm. to accomodate the lifestyles of the students. It works. They are well attended.

As long as people are worshipping and priests are willing to celebrate the sacrifice of the mass, all is well with the Lord, I am sure.
