A Pyx is a Sacred vessel Blessed for the purpose of carrying the Blessed Sacrament to the sick, infirm and dying. No one should have one unless they are commissioned EMHC, friends and family members should not have one unless they are a commissioned EMHC.
Prior to Vatican II, not only did a new mother not return to Mass until 40 days after birth, she had to receive a purification blessing. This was part of the Mosaic Law. Just as we recently celebrated the Feast of the Presentation 40 days after Christmas that was the first day that Mary could return to the Temple after being purified from the uncleanness of birth (blood had been shed). Personally, I think that God put that in the Law so that mothers could have a rest before being sent back into the fields with her new baby on her back.

It isn’t just about embarrassment/nursing for me…I live in Alaska where the temps have been 15 below and it’s been super windy/icy. I’ve been nervous to drive her because of the cold and ice too. I have no one to watch her because she has to nurse a lot still, and can’t have a bottle yet. Pretty soon the weather should get better; she just seems way too little and young to take out in that kind of weather. Next week’s weather is supposed to get better. Next Sunday she is 6 weeks
