Validity of marriage with contraception

I’m getting mixed messages on this situation, so I figured I’d ask here.

I have a family member getting married later this spring. I found out this past weekend that she is strongly considering going on the Pill to plan their family. I have strongly voiced my concerns, including reminding her that contraceptive use in marriage is a mortal sin (of which she was / is well aware)

So, here’s my question … IF the couple decides to use contraceptives in their marriage, does it render the marriage sacramentally invalid? And should I still be an honor attendant at the wedding?
 
This would be a much better post for the “ask an apologist” section, where you are more likely to get advice from people well-versed in canon law. As well-intentioned as the replies here will be, most of us on this forum do not fall into the expert category.

Hello,

If you think you’ve gotten mixed messages up until now, you just wait. Anyway, no, usage of contraceptives does not automatically lead to an invalid marriage. Should you be an attendant? You can if you want. It is certainly not an action that is intrinsically wrong.

No more than bitter arguing within the marriage would render it invalid, or performing an abortion. Annulments are based on not meeting required conditions, not on sinfulness. If the couple has zero openness towards children, then that is a basis for annulment.
 
She may not be aware that the pill can also be an abortifacient, as it can prevent a fertilized egg from implanting in the womb.
 
This is not your concern. Since it is not public situation, it is personal.
