My Church has been attacked…three times in the past three months some idiot has knocked down the statue of St. Joseph that is in the front of the church…thankfully the statue has not broken, but the accent light was busted…

Actually…it has to be more than one person because that statue is really large…about 5’0 ft. tall at least.

I am really angry…and feeling paranoid truthfully. This is not a large Church, we are a very small parish in the middle of large protestant populations…It is not a very “welcoming to Catholic” community…

Say a quick prayer that we might catch these vandels before they break our beautiful Statue! St. Josephs Catholic Church in Central City Kentucky!!!

Thank you!!!

Whether idiotic teenage prank or something more sinister and malicious, these folks are in serious need of prayer. It is a twisted and cruel undertaking to desecrate what others sincerely consider sacred. “Forgive them Lord, they know not what they do…”

The name of my Parish is St. Joseph’s also. I understand your pain. We are a large community, but we had to institute security measures for our 24 hour Adoration Chapel because Jesus was attacked when it was first openned.

Do you have a home town newspaper or radio station? Write in - and be sure to say you would hate to think that fellow Christians were doing this because it would be such a hateful act. Then ask for help from the Christian Community. You will get a response, and a reaction.

Gosh Leslie…that is really awful!

Good suggestion about writing the newspaper…the police have promised vigilence…both of them 😃

I’m sorry, Lillith, my parents’ church had their tabernacle stolen a few years back, so I can relate. It awful that anyone would vandalize a church. Hopefully the police can help out!

How about putting up a security video camera or hide one somewhere near the statue? Maybe it would help catch the culprits. HollyAngel

That is awful! I’m very sorry such a terrible thing has happened to your church.

We have a similar problem at our Shrine. Someone donated a beautiful (and very expensive), Italian statue of St. Michael for the grounds. It was stolen!! It was replaced by a less expensive statue and cemented down! Stolen again!!! Finally, it was replaced with a much smaller, plastic statue that you fill with cement, and it was sunk into the foundation with more cement. Guess what? Broken off (with God only knows what) and stolen again!!

Isn’t it horrible when our sacred places are vandalized? I often wonder, if this was a mosque or other place of worship, wouldn’t this be all over the news and the perpetrators hunted down for “hate crimes”? We had the tabernacle at our parish vandalized a couple of years ago. And there is another nearby parish that has been broken into several times. I guess all we can do is pray! Oh, and the sign is a cute idea, even though it will probably not stop such a vandal.

BTW, Lillith, I love your signature!! It made me laugh right out loud the first time I read it. Gotta love Bishop Sheen, huh?

Yes…Bishop Sheen…awesome…and such a sense of humor!!!

I wonder…do protestant denominations have such difficulty?

I’m glad someone said it. I never see the news report it as a hate crime.

Just this past Christmas, there were at least 3 reports in the Boston area of the baby Jesus either being stolen or vandalized. Not one mention of a hate crime.

Last year, someone broke into our Church and started a fire in front of the altar. The carpet was ruined (later patched), but the fire didn’t spread, fortunately. Our associate pastor was in the separate Adoration Chapel and noticed an odor, but attributed it to the furnace. He almost went to check it out, but it passed and he didn’t want to interrupt his prayer. It was around 3 am. Nothing since.

My Adoration hour is from 1 to 2 am. Since then, I feel a little nervous about the hour. But, not enough to keep me from Jesus!!

A few years ago teenage punks (sorry no other word for them) smashed our Statue of the Virgin Mary. painted fiflth on the Church and Parish Hall. Also they painted swaitstickers (spelling) on other buildings to offend the Jewish people too. Laws must be upheld to stop these crimes whether you are 14 or 30 or whatever! You know what you are doing. They are crimes of Hate. I am so sick of hearing “childish prank”.

I really don’t understand why anyone would do that, it’s horrific.
