Once again, I have some questions from my Protestant friends about Mary that I’m somewhat stumped on!
First of all, we were discussing Mary’s Immaculate Conception. My friend argues that if God did really preserve Mary from sin at conception, wasn’t this a violation of her free will? I’ve used “the pit analogy” for her (how Mary was saved before she fell into the ‘pit of sin’), but that doesn’t quite answer her argument about free will. Any help here?
Secondly, she’s quoted some Marian apparitions and related documents which she thinks ‘overly glorify’ Mary. She was asking about Marian consecration and wondering how that is Biblical. I’ve gotten her to accept the idea that Mary acts as a sort of “role model” or model disciple, but she has an issue with some ideas expressed in the quotes below (her comments in italics):

“After my election as Pope, as I become more involved in the problems of the universal Church, I came to have a similar conviction: On this universal level, if victory comes it will be brought by Mary. Christ will conquer through her, because he wants the Church’s victories now and in the future to be linked to her.” - Pope John Paul II (Christ does huh? since when…)
“I alone am able still to save you from the calamities which approach. Those who place their confidence in me will be saved.” - Message from Our Lady of Akita to Sister Agnes Sasagawa (this message, according to the book Queen of All is fully approved by the Roman Catholic Church)
[compare this to 2 Sam 22:2-4 and Isaiah 43:11]
“The power of Mary over all devils will be particularly outstanding in the last period of time. She will extend the Kingdom of Christ over the idolaters and Moslems, and there will come a glorious era in which Mary will be ruler and queen of human hearts.” - Louis de Montfont(canonized as a Catholic saint in 1947 and known as the greatest Marian evangelist)
As you can see she takes issue with quite a few Catholic viewpoints of Mary, such as her title of Queen and many other things. Any helpful suggestions are appreciated!Mary ruler and queen of human hearts? hello…where in the Bible is Mary given the authority of ruler/queen? advocate and role model is one thing…but ruler???![]()
