I would direct you to Humanae Vitae and the* Catechism of the Catholic Church. *These books also can also help you to better understand the “why” of Catholic teaching in this area:

Theology of the Body Explained: A Commentary on John Paul Ii’s "Gospel of the Body – by Christopher West

Good News About Sex and Marriage: Answers to Your Honest Questions About Catholic Teaching – by Christopher West

Life-Giving Love : Embracing God’s Beautiful Design for Marriage – by Kimberly Hahn

Love and Responsibility by Karol Wojtyla

“. . .the direct interruption of the generative process already begun and, above all, all direct abortion, even for therapeutic reasons, are to be absolutely excluded as lawful means of regulating the number of children . . . Similarly excluded is any action which either before, at the moment of, or after sexual intercourse, is specifically intended to prevent procreation—whether as an end or as a means.” (Humanae Vitae)

“The regulation of births represents one of the aspects of responsible fatherhood and motherhood. Legitimate intentions on the part of the spouses do not justify recourse to morally unacceptable means (for example, direct sterilization or contraception).” (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2399)

“Contraception is to be judged so profoundly unlawful as to be never, for any reason, justified. To think or to say the contrary is equal to maintaining that in human life, situations may arise in which it is lawful not to recognize God as God.” (Pope John Paul II L’Osservatore Romano, October, 10, 1983)

About 7 or 8 years ago, I left the Catholic Church and joined a nondenominational Christian Church (for many reasons). It took me a couple of years to make it back home to the Catholic Church. While I was out, I got a vasectomy. As I waited on the table for the doctor to come and perform the vasectomy, something urged me to get up a leave asap. I thought it was fear and I ignored it. Now, I think it was the Holy Spirit.

I regret very much getting this procedure. Although I confessed, I still live everyday with the thought that I rejected God’s most precious gift. I was being selfish with my time and money and giving in to the American materialistic culture. I advise you NOT to
proceed with this mutilation.

God Bless

Have you considered a reversal?

31 December 1987 I received mine and I have regretted it every day since my wife came in to the church in 1995. I am now 41, I have confessed it, my children are 19, 21 and 22 reversal is expensive, less likely to work and something my wife discourages me from. My wife is the most wonderful woman currently on the face of the earth and has longed for another baby for a long time but I robbed her of that gift. A vasectomy is one of the most selfish things I have done in my life and the only real serious regret I have ever had.
Please don’t do it, you will be stealing from your spouse and from God!

Same thing, kinda, happened to me. At the time of my vasectomy I was protestant and studying about the Hutterites. They are against birth control. Deep down inside of me I felt an urging not to go through with it. But I did. I had no instruction in this. I, too, regret having a vasectomy. Don’t do it.

Another thing that most of us macho guys wont tell you is about the pain we live with. According to my current doctor, it is really quite normal to have some pain down there due to scar tissue. It varys from man to man but is again quite normal. My pain is pretty mild for the most part. The problem is that even mild pain gets to you after a while. Please, don’t have a vasectomy. Believe me, that area is tha last place you would want to have long term pain in.

Me too.😦
