United States Federal Budget: $2.52 trillion collected in income in FY2008, while spending $2.98 trillion.
McDonalds: $2.359 billion net income.
Career Education: $1,720.8 billion in revenues for 2009 - this is the company on the bottom (500th) rank of the Fortune 500 for 2009.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America: $1.018 billion in income for fiscal year 2006-2007 (up 11 percent from 2005-2006), near 1/3 from taxpayers.
Riker’s Island (NYC prison): $860 million.
Starbucks: $672.64 million net income.
Archdiocese of NY (NYC): estimated $500 million annual budget.

Vatican City Budget 2003: Revenues (2007) $372 million; expenditures (2007) $386 million.

Peter’s Pence is the practice of lay members of the Roman Catholic Church providing financial support to the Holy See.
While the regular tithe goes to the local parish or diocese, the Peter’s Pence goes directly to Rome. It was formalised in 1871 by Pope Pius IX who gave it his approval in the Encyclical Letter Saepe Venerabilis (5 August 1871).

At present this collection is taken each year on the Sunday closest to June 29, the Solemnity of both Saint Peter and Saint Paul, according to the Roman Church. According to the report, in 2007, donations amounted to $79,837,843. In 2006 it was $101,900,192. United States was the biggest donor, giving some 28% of the total. It was followed by Italy, Germany, Spain, France, Ireland, Brazil and Korea.

Sierra Club: $100 million, 2004
PETA: $25 million in income in 2005 from donations.

Every once in awhile there’s talk about the Vatican riches, and how the Church is rich. In fact many archdioceses and universities have far more income annually than the Vatican. In the case of the artwork and historical treasures in the Vatican, these are all marked off at $0.00 in the Vatican budget. This is because they can never be sold, and always will be maintained at a loss, due to the care and expense of preserving them – they are considered part of the cultural and religious heritage of mankind and in the caretakership of the Vatican only, and can never be sold.

If anyone wants to add some companies or more exact/up to date figures and corrections to this list I’d appreciate it. I just quickly cobbled it up from Wikipedia, and would like to spiff it up so I have a standard document to hand to or email to the ‘Vatican Riches’ crowds.

I’m sure similar to this has been done before so any links to such efforts are appreciated too.

😃

Thanks for posting that, Shin. I was not aware that the artwork is valued at 0.00 for no resale.

I forget if it’s 0.00 or at the equivalent of a penny. I read that one in a good Catholic article once that I no longer remember the source of.

Hopefully someone will clear it up for me or I will find it in google, I do like to be as exact as I can.

Though it means the same thing in essence. 🙂

Thank you! 🙂

While the artwork is priceless and could be sold off, Jesus told us;

“**For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you will, you can do good to them; but you will not always have me.” (Mk 14:7).
**
These precious pieces of art are our heritage, our link to our brothers and sisters love for Jesus over the centuries. To sell them would have a short term impact for the good, but would cause so much of our heritage to be lost forever.

i pray for the chance to spend some time in Rome, to visit the Holy sites and to see these precious gifts!

(Does it seem strange to anyone else that the US government gives $330+ million of taxpayer dollars to Planned “Parenthood” so they can murder innocent babies for a profit???)

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora Pro Nobis Peccatoribus!

Thank you for this! I get very disgruntled when I try to explain to non-catholics that the pope isn’t “loaded”.

Do you have any figures for the value of assets currently owned? That is usually the focus of those that criticise the Vatican for its wealth - not annual income.
