Vatican: Catholics cannot support abortion rights

The Vatican had issued numerous statements like this. The problem was with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. They deliberately obscured the unique gravity of abortion by listing it as one of many things Catholics should consider when voting. Things are not going to change until these Bishops retire or are removed and we get some Bishops who will preach the faith.

It seems to me that if you want to know where that statement was last year, then my question to you is-“where have YOU been?”

The Vatican was never this “clear” on the issue. The American Bishops always had room to “wiggle.” The best we had was a footnote in a memo from then-Cardinal Ratzinger to the U.S. Bishops.

Let’s pray that this synod in October produces a sense of urgency in the U.S. bishops and a sense of courage as they remember their fellow bishops of yore. The Mass is where the faith begins and the faith ends, and if the Mass is not reverent, then the people will not approach Communion reverently. If the homilies do not address the teachings of God and how they apply to such issues as abortion, then Catholics will continue to be ignorant, muddled, or willful. To enlighten the laity, the bishops must be clear, amplified, and consistent in their teachings. They must also be willing to stand against the culture, as they lead their flock to Heaven…Yes, it’s a lot to ask for, but with the Holy Spirit who guides the Church until she meets her spouse, all things are possble…so yes, let’s start novenas, let’s say continuous rosaries, let’s offer up Masses, let’s ask the Church Triumphant to intercede, let’s pray to our Blessed Mother and all the angels and saints, but most of all let’s pray without ceasing, for our bishops, for our Church, for us as we seek to curtail the deleterious effects of this brave new world.

The statement was there…but in the form of American Bishops…lol

I loved it when my liberal family members were mad at their local bishop for saying that they would be committing a sin for supporting a candidate that supported abortion…I loved rubbing it in their faces that they couldn’t vote for John F. Kerry…woooohooooo…that was validation let me tell ya…

On a serious note - I wonder why the vatican HAD to issue the statement. Isn’t it obvious?

If you actually had a Bishop that said this, consider yourself fortunate. This sentiment was not shared by most American Bishops. 😦

I realize it…I actually live in one of the most conservative states - one that will actually never (or so it would seem) accept abortion - Utah!

But the Bishop I was referring to was Archbishop Chaput of Denver…
