I’ve been thinking about V2 lately and for the most part, I think V2 is a good thing.
My understanding is that V2 loosened things up, modernized a little bit and laid emphasis in three areas:
1: Social outreach and charity work.
2: Ecumenical dialogue.
3: The New Evangelization.
These three areas I have no problem with, and in fact; I think it’s been necessary.
I accept and submit to the Magisterium’s decisions. But, I humbly offer these criticisms.
My only criticisms of V2 have been:
1: I wish Latin was retained in the Mass.
2: I wish the Saint Michael Prayer was retained in the Mass.
Beyond that, I’m good.
From what I’ve gathered over the years, there’s been several problems other Catholics have had with V2.
1: A general sense of confusion. Like: Okay, things have shifted and now I’m not sure where we stand as Catholics.
2: The modernization of the Mass and it’s being said in the vernacular seems, especially to the Trads; an accommodation to Protestantism.
I’m not sure if I agree with the accommodating Protestants thing. But, I do agree that keeping the Mass in Latin respects Tradition and shouldn’t have been changed; IMHO.
Another reason I say Latin should’ve been retained is that when I was in the Philippines visiting my fiancé, I couldn’t follow what Father was saying in the Mass. I knew where to sit, stand and kneel and everything else; but: I couldn’t say the responsae. If I were trained in the Latin Mass, and we retained it as the standard form; I would have known the responsae regardless of where in the world I was.
I’m laying out this post in the hopes of seeing where the consensus on V2 is and I hope we can keep this civil.
