One person asked me.

“It wasn’t until 1993 that the Vatican recognized Israel…after the PLO did. Any idea why it took so long ? That agreement hasn’t even been implemented yet.”

I don’t know how to answer that.

Here is something newer.
Senior Vatican diplomat says ties with Israel worsening

Vatican City: A senior Vatican diplomat who served as papal envoy to Israel has described Vatican-Israeli relations as worsening, blaming the Jewish state for failing to keep promises related to church land, taxes and travel restrictions on Arab clergy.

Archbishop Pietro Sambi lashed out at Israel in an interview posted Friday on Terrasanta.net, an online publication about the Holy Land.

“If I must be frank, the relations between the Catholic Church and the state of Israel were better when there were no diplomatic ties,” said Sambi, interviewed earlier in the week in Washington, where he now serves as Pope Benedict XVI’s envoy to the United States.

The Vatican still doesn’t recognize the State called “Israel” and controlled by the Zionist movement as the Israel of God.

Simply being Rome sees the old covenant as becoming abrogated with the coming of Christ, quite contrary to the views of some Protestant groups.

I found an old thread here and your view is in opposition to many, many Catholics on this forum.

Then they have issues with papal infallibility, because Eugene IV wrote in his Bull of Union with the Copts that, **"[The Catholic Church] firmly believes, professes and preaches that all those who are outside the Catholic Church, not only pagans but also Jews or heretics and schismatics, cannot share in eternal life and will go into the everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels, unless they are joined to the Catholic Church before the end of their lives."

There’s already an active thread on “extra ecclesiam nulla salus” here: Why be Catholic if Non-Catholics can be saved?.

As for the state of Israel, I understand the Vatican has a problem with some of their laws/policies regarding Christians in that country.

Refusing to allow naturally born authentic Jewish people who converted to Christianity might have something to do with it-- especially since naturally born authentic Jewish people who subscribe to other non-Jewish faiths, such as Buddhism for example, are not restricted to immigrate to Israel.

Even naturally born authentic Jewish people who subscribe agnostism and atheism are not restricted.

Bad catechesis on their part I suppose, which is more or less the norm in the Catholic Church of today sadly speaking.

Teaching the whole truth has not been in fashion in many, many Catholic parishes, dioceses and even seminaries across America or the World in general these past few decades.

The teaching has been infallibly defined by many popes and councils over many centuries as Francine Peters eluded to. Its just that it has had a broad tendency to go untaught in these more recent times, to the detriment of most.
