I would have to say (“Both”) the clergy and laity share the burden on the lack of the frequent sacramental use of Penance. Most of this burden falls on the lacking of diocesan priest not setting appropriate time schedules to make allowance of parishioners who work to make use of this sacrament. A half hour before Saturday afternoon Mass is not enough time.:yup:
I used to think priests didn’t discuss sin from the pulpit because they were told to give homilies on one of the Scripture readings, however I’ve never seen a priest have difficulty requesting donations (or having someone else do it for them, at least). So
Advent and Lent shouldn’t be the ONLY times this sacrament is made available to the laity.
Very little about Penance is spoken from the Ambo.
And why is it that you don’t hear a priest or bishop talk about Humane Vitae.
(“Do priests and bishops fear the pews will empty”) if clergy members occasionally with tactfulness give fire and brimstone talks about behavioral norms on Catholic moral theology.
One cannot preach about moral theology if it is not grounded in ones heart.
They laity desperately needs to be spiritual feed from their priestly Shepherds.
