Okay, so you know how Sunni Muslims go in the streets (in typically Euro countries) and protest for Sharia Law, every couple months or so?

Well, is there a sort of “Vatican Law,” or something like that, which we Catholics could go out and protest for, the way Sunni Muslims protest for Sharia Law?

Vatican law does exist i.e. the Commandments of God and the Laws of the Church. Christian values.
Love God above all, others as one should love oneself. Respect for life from conception to grave.
Yes, we need to defend Christian values, in the way we live them, and also to stand against laws and culture that betray or deny Christian values.

So, assuming that “Vatican Law” = “Commandments of God and the Laws of the Roman Catholic Church,” do you think that I could use “Vatican Law” as a slogan so that our gov’t could turn into a country with “Vatican Law,” instead of the American Constitution of 1776 etc.?

Where the constitution of the USA would be the CCC, there would be some type of totalitarian rule, everyone would have to be Catholic, et cetera…

Hehe, that’s funny interesting to imagine it, but I don’t think it will ever happen

Why you want Vatican law?

The Code of Canon Law, maybe?
No, Canon Law relates to much that has no bearing on society - the inner workings of the Church for example.

What the OP wants to know if we could be agitating for Catholic moral laws to become the laws of the country. Imagine a country where not going to Mass is a crime. Is that really something we would want?

Although much of the Western laws are based on a Judeo-Christian system of values, they don’t match up with the 10 commandments. Would you want them to?

Actualy believe it or not the Catholic Church does have liberty of religion as a principal tenet. We cannot force anyone to accept our religion it must be freely taken.
Also the Church itself is not interested in running the government of our societies.

People that see or point at the middle ages when the Church was the effective government in Europe fail to mention that the Roman Empire had collapsed leaving an effective power vacuum and of course people suffered as a consequence.

But what we cannot allow to happen is the ejection of GOD from the public discourse we saw where that lead in Germany, Russia, China etc.

Sorry to disappoint you but Vatican City uses the civil and criminal code of Italy, per the Lateran Treaty.

Indeed, the USA will never have a constitution and laws completely based off of and only Catholic Moral Law, the CCC, the 10 commandmnents, etc.

Anyway, I think that this would make an interesting account of realistic-fiction… 😛

Isn’t that what some of the early colonies tried? Remember the blue laws, the witch hunts, etc? The Constitution of the US works fine in my opinion, if we’d just respect it.
One way we differ from the Muslims is that we respect the rights of other people, and we use persuasion, instead of threats, to change people’s hearts.
It’s bad enough we have one group of bullies running around, we don’t need to imitate them!

The Catholic Church has the Code of Canon Law, but that code of law is meant to govern the church, not to govern civil society.

My understanding is that Islam sees no distinction between religion and state, and so for them religious law ought to be civil law as well. But Catholics don’t generally see it that way. We see that the church and the state operate in separate spheres. We believe that the church should not try to do things that are primarily the duty of the state, and vice versa.

So no, I do not think that we should advocate for any kind of “Vatican Law.”
