The Vatican issued a document on Gender Ideology that might interest the CAF community since it’s a topic that has come up frequently in the past.

(I’m posting under social justice for those who missed it.)
WASHINGTON—The Chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee for Catholic Education says he welcomes the release of the document: Male and Female He Created Them: TOWARDS A PATH OF DIALOGUE ON THE QUESTION OF GENDER THEORY IN EDUCATION by the Holy See’s Congregation for Catholic education.

This is probably one of the most orthodox documents to emerge from the Vatican in the last six years.

The problem is that the secular culture is enabling genuine psychological issues and trying to normalize them. This doesn’t help anyone — least of all those dealing with these issues. The document is good (in my opinion, I know many Catholics disagree), but, it’s a document. More paper. At least it’s better than nothing: words do matter.

I think it’s more than better than nothing. I think people should listen to the Church, not just Catholics.

I think the document is going to be hurtful to a good many people.

Those who already were affected, one way or the other, found themselves influenced by the very ideas this document now contradicts and denounces.

My thoughts and prayers are foremost with them.

Adding to the problems they had already, now follows disenchantment and disillusion - a confrontation with the intellectual/cultural constructs they had invested themselves in.

May their faith and hope help them overcome any hardship the document might bring.

(However, it might not be a complete loss…Since their intelectual investments stand to serve them with a degree of adjustment.)

I think those who promote these ideas need to be identified, not to be hurtful toward them but to correct the spread of false ideas and beliefs to those affected. One wrong person can influence many others even if he or she is an intellectual. Social constructs don’t invent themselves, they are created.

Most of the “lobbies” (thus organizations) are publicly known. Although a countless number of pseudo-scholars now find themselves rebuked and discredited.

I am not thinking of scandal nor of those who might have caused scandal without malice.

I am thinking of those who suffered damages and hurt.

Yes, that’s fine. But preventing damages and hurt would be better.

I’ve noticed that many of those who claim to fight on behalf of women are also the same people who want to force women to accept men in women’s bathrooms, and men in women’s sports.

That is true. These things are linked together in an effort to distort reality.
