Here’s a question for my fellow devoted Catholics. Do you know if there’s any availability of the music from the Papal Masses at the Vatican? Of course, there’s tons, maybe all of them, on YouTube which I really enjoy watching and listening to. I’ve downloaded a few and edited down the music, but the problem is the ambiance-lots of coughing, babies crying, etc. Being an editor, I’ve actually cut all that stuff out just to get the music which is very inspiring to listen to, but this is quite a tedious task. I’ve looked around online and haven’t found anything and there may not be anything like that available but was wondering if there was a clean audio recording somewhere. I’m not so sure there’s even an audio mixing board or anything everything goes through, but if anyone knows of anything like this besides the youtube videos, please let me know.

thanks!

An audio mixing board? Not likely at all. I’d be surprised if they even used microphones.

Yes, they have a sound system. It’s still a challenge dealing with such a large space that was not designed with acoustics in mind. And the sound system is not designed with recording in mind.

If you google “Papal Mass CD” or “Pope Mass Cd” or similar, you will also find CDs of the Mass music done by choirs and musicians who support the Papal Masses when the Pope travels. These are often sold as fundraisers for the choir or basilica in whatever city the Pope stops at. The music is not from the Vatican, but it’s often the same composers (such as Palestrina) and similar quality music. I know Philadelphia and St. Louis released such CDs from when the Pope was in US last.

thanks everyone. That is all helpful.

Yes, that Christmas Mass was a quiet one! I think I had downloaded that before.
