You sent an email, I sent an email and I guess so did MANY others.I sent an email to Sr. Carol Keehan concerning her betrayal of our Catholic Bishops and the Pope and our beautiful Catholic faith. Of course, I got no response at all. I told her I will continue to pray for her repentance and public recanting and apology for her assitance in getting this abominable bill passed in our Congress and asked her to please consider desisting in identifying herself as a Catholic in public until such time as she fully supports the Catholic principle and moral law forbidding promoting, assisting or supporting a platform that calls for destuction of any human being from the moment of conception until natural death. I think the woman had dollar signs in her eyes and was temporarily “blinded”, to put her actions in the most charitable light.![]()
I believe, especially with religious orders, there are certain procedures which much be followed, channels which must be gone through, etc., before an official reprimand can be made. Also, I believe that there are specific Vatican congregations who are responsible for the various issues Abp. Burke raises. So, it’s not necessarily his place to make an “official communication” to these groups.Archbishop Burke is a puzzling figure. He likes to makes speeches and give quotes but rarely seems to make official communication to these groups…
Don’t know what motivated her, but probably she thinks of herself on the side of the angels.I sent an email to Sr. Carol Keehan concerning her betrayal of our Catholic Bishops and the Pope and our beautiful Catholic faith. If its not his place to make “official communication” then its not his place to publicly rebuke them through speeches and interviews to 3rd parties…I believe, especially with religious orders, there are certain procedures which much be followed, channels which must be gone through, etc., before an official reprimand can be made. I disagree. The scandal given allows for his authoritative and corrective commentary. If its not his place to make “official communication” then its not his place to publicly rebuke them through speeches and interviews to 3rd parties…
The “problem” is that its not productive to attack groups through 3rd parties. There’s an institutional process to correct these groups, why not use it?I disagree. The scandal given allows for his authoritative and corrective commentary.
The institutional process may well be underway. The “problem” is that its not productive to attack groups through 3rd parties. There’s an institutional process to correct these groups, why not use it?
Undoubtedly, investigation is taking place. The “problem” is that its not productive to attack groups through 3rd parties. There’s an institutional process to correct these groups, why not use it?
It most certainly is his place as a successor of the Apostles to do just this…If its not his place to make “official communication” then its not his place to publicly rebuke them through speeches and interviews to 3rd parties…
Precisely. It most certainly is his place as a successor of the Apostles to do just this…
Yes and no. While certainly any bishop can speak at any time on any issue anywhere, its not necessarily productive to do so. For example, its considered a breach “professional etiquette” for a bishop to comment on matters in another diocese. Its also considered the cause of many headaches when a bishop or cardinal in one office comments on the affairs of another office. It also doesn’t help working relationships when an official is bad mouthing a group to 3rd parties but isn’t addressing the matter directly through the appropriate channels. It most certainly is his place as a successor of the Apostles to do just this…
Yes – as one of the faithful, I find it highly reassuring when Church officials make clear what is out of bounds. The institutional process may well be underway.
The point of the public rebuke is that the rest of the world needs to know these sisters don’t speak for the Church. To prevent others from being led into error.
God Bless
His diocese (?) seems to be that of the Vatican.Yes and no. While certainly any bishop can speak at any time on any issue anywhere, its not necessarily productive to do so. Archbishop Burke talked about the ex communication of pro-choice politicians. Yet where are the ex communications? Empty threats aren’t productive.

Pro-abortion politicians excluded from Communion: Pope
**May 09, 2007**
**Catholic politicians who vote for legal abortion are subject to excommunication, Pope Benedict XVI told reporters during a May 9 flight from Rome to Brazil. **
Fielding questions from reporters during the trip, the Holy Father was asked whether he supported the Mexican bishops who have threatened the excommunication of politicians who voted to approve legalization of abortion in Mexico City. The Pontiff replied that he did.
"They did nothing new, nothing arbitrary or surprising," the Pope said of the Mexican bishops. "They simply announced to the public what is stipulated by the law of the Church."
Later the Vatican press director, Father Federico Lombardi, issued a statement to clarify the Pope's remarks. Father Lombardi-- who noted that his statement had the Pope's approval-- stressed that **the Pope had not declared anyone excommunicated.** The Mexican bishops had threatened but not imposed that penalty; thus, the Vatican spokesman said, there was no decree of excommunication for the Pope to affirm.
The thrust of the Pope's remarks, Father Lombardi said, was that politicians who support legal abortion should not receive Communion. **The Pope was not declaring anyone excommunicated, he said, but the individuals who vote for abortion "have excluded themselves from Communion. **
I believe that this betrayal is off the same tree as the current church scandal except here we have leaders advocating the killing of the flock in stead of the abuse of it. I think this is one of those areas that, for leaders, is automatic excommunication.
This is a weak argument, the Bishops are the successors of the Apostles i.e. the leaders of the Church. When some of the flock break with the clear teaching of the church, and their clear mandate for obediance it is the job of the successors of the apostles to rien them in. As mentioned, Archbishop Burke is head of the Abostolic Signatura, this most certainly gives him the authority and right to comment in this way regarding the sisters (and certainly any American Bishop has the same right, indeed responcibility and the USCCB has responded).Yes and no. It’s clear, the US religious and particularly the convents are in diar need of reform. They’ve clearly accepted some highly problematic if not heretical views regarding the faith, and their position in the Church and most especially regarding their responcibilities to care for all of Gods childeren.
Perhaps I didn’t overtly before, so I’ll take this oppertunity to openly applude Archbishop Burke for not standing silent.
