I rejoice that, at this directive, our music director has taken “YHWH, I Know You Are Near” (Glory to the Most Holy Name and no disrespect intended) OFF the playlist for Mass.

I read in my diocesan paper that a spokesman for GIA said no changes would be necessary, since its longstanding editorial policy excludes “Yahweh” from hymnals.

However, I noticed that “You Are Near” was included in the “Lead Me, Guide Me” hymnal where I attended mass today. The copyright of the hymnal was 1987. Has GIA published a new edition of “Lead Me, Guide Me” since then without “You Are Near”?

Our hymnals were bought in the mid-nineties and they have it.

I believe the term “longstanding” has a unique meaning at the GIA corporation, as in, since last spring. It would explain why their decisions always lack historical perspective.
