I came across this 1996 article while doing a search for Catholic nuns who’ve been put on the pill because of civil unrest that was causing them to be raped.

What do you think of this?

VATICAN CITY (CWN) - A moral theologian at the Pontifical Academy “Regina Apostolurum” said on Wednesday it is morally acceptable to give birth control pills to mentally handicapped women who could be forced into sex.

Also from the article…
Father Gonzalo Miranda, who teaches at the academy, said such use is an extension of other proposed exceptions to the immorality of artificial contraception, including nuns working in high-risk areas or women who are at risk of rape, such as Bosnia women herded into “rape camps” three years ago.

The abortifacient nature of the pill alone is enough to render such a proposal utterly unacceptable. To be fair, this is a very short article and it would be important to see the theologian’s complete statement. The fact that the abortificient effect did not send up warning flags with this guy immediately makes me suspicious of either the reporting or the theologian. Need more detail.

The solution doesn’t address the problem
The problem is that mentally ill women are being raped.

The “solution” actually acts as a cover up for the crime committed and only enhances the suffering of the innocent.
