Whenever I hear about the perceived evils of capitalism, I am inspired to go back and read selections from “The Black Book of Communism—Crimes, Terror, and Repression.” I ask myself how such a murderous ideology which produced such disastrous results and so much death managed to become so seemingly favored by so many on the left. The Polish Pope, John Paul II, was instrumental in the downfall of that ideology, and yet it still retains a certain patina of favoritism among some in the intellectual class. As for the intellectual class, Thomas Sowell’s “Intellectuals and Society” is instructive.
To repeat Abysinnia’s quote from Pope Benedict in Post #29, “
“We do not need a State which regulates and controls everything, but a State which, in accordance with the principle of subsidiarity, generously acknowledges and supports initiatives arising from the different social forces and combines spontaneity with closeness to those in need”
A national bureaucracy which controls and regulates everything is far more dangerous than any corporation or business.
