But evolution cannot just hang on to something for its future value. It has to contribute something in the non-perfected state.

Sidebar - I wish those two sentences could be made to flash in bold neon letters in every thread that contains the word “evolution”.
🙂 Thanks. That point does get lost quite often.

You’re quite right, however I was responding to Ed who spoke specifically about Catholics not believing in Evolution. I’m not aware of any alternative to evolution that doesn’t fall into my category of having no supporting evidence?
I wrote that Catholics cannot believe every claim made. Polygenism which suppposedly excludes Adam and Eve as our first parents. Right out. Who did Jesus die for? A pair of hominids? And is evolution the new circumcision? A requirement for being Catholic? We are still allowed to believe in Creation. So no, it’s not evolution or nothing. The Church is very concerned when ‘science’ touches upon man’s true origin because science cannot answer the question of the ontological leap to man. If you’re going by Pope John Paul II’s secularly famous comment about evolution being more than a hypothesis, you should be aware of Pope Benedict’s follow-up to it: “But it is allso true that the theory of evolution is not a complete, scientifically proven theory.” I agree with the Holy Father.

Peace,
Ed
