I was hoping someone might be able to assist me. I may be relocating to Vermont and was hoping someone could tell me if you know of any Catholic churches in Vermont that would be considered more conservative? Are there any monasteries or convents in Vermont? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In Christ,

Ron

I hope you get a lot of good replies & (name removed by moderator)ut from folks in VT…but just for starters, did you already explore www.masstimes.org?

You can search by zip, city or state & get a listing of churches. Some of those churches have their websites linked to the listing, so you could explore that way…also, you could take a look at the particular diocese’s website as well.

Online is not the same as in person, but you can usually get a pretty good snapshot of the atmosphere in a church if you explore their “ministries” sections.

Hope all goes well with the move!

Funny…I was going to send this link along as well grins

Whereabouts in VT are you looking at moving to? If it’s Central VT (around the Middlebury area), my parish is great - vermontparishes.org/parishes/?church=68

Check out vermontcatholic.org/cbb/ for event/announcment forums, too 🙂

Best of luck!

Hi Jessica,

It’s funny you say that because that is exactly where it is…Middlebury. Any information you can provide in regards to the church, area, homeschooling, etc would sincerely be appreciated. It’s pretty difficult for me to find out too much from down here in Alabama. You can find information on the internet, but it helps to get information from someone who is actually there.

Thanks again and God Bless!

How awesome!! What brings you up this way?

Oh, Father Justin is a RIOT! I’m going through RCIA right now, and he’s the instructor…very funny guy 😃 There is a school just a stones throw away - I don’t have children, so I can’t help you out much there. The parish seems to be a good mix of older folks / young families and there are 2 other parishes nearby (St. Bernadette and St. Genevieve - and Father says that those two tend to be older crowds)

I just moved here in August, and I’m still getting familiar with the area, but I can help out a bit…Middlebury is a college town, and church is right on the campus. And being a small New England town, there are little churches everywhere 🙂 There are only 3 fast food restaurants (McDonalds, Subway, Dunkin Donuts) in town, a spiffy little downtown villiage area (w/ 2 great cafes and a veeerrry dangerous bookstore LoL), no Wal-mart, 2 supermarkets (I recommend the Hannafords…it’s a great place LoL) and a wonderful co-op (memberships are only $20 a year! Yay!)

We are an hour away from Burlington and an hour away from Rutland, the two nearest big towns/cities, so there are no “quick trips to Wal-mart” LoL.

I can’t think of anything else to mention - though if there’s anything you might need from me, just let me know!

Jessica,

Thanks again for all the information. I truly appreciate it. I have a possible job opportunity that would be so much better for me and my family than where I am now.

I honestly don’t mean this in a bad way, but would you consider the parish there to be more liberal or conservative? I’m just a little concerned because we have run into so many churches which abuse the liturgy.

Thanks again and God bless you!

Hi Ron!

I would say that it runs on the more conservative side of the spectrum, but remember that I’m a Catholic-in-Progress, still learning and all that jazz 🙂

If you take the job, do you know when you would be heading up this way?

My best guess would be sometime in February since I have to give a month’s notice to my current employer

I know I am a little late responding to this post, but it is good to see others from this board from Vermont. Hope you enjoy the state, especially during our wacky winters.
