I’m really interested in the stories from the Apocrypha, can anyone tell me more? What happened with Veronica, is this to do with the Turin Shroud?

Check Inside the Vatican’s march 2006 issue. Veronica’s veil is said to be kept at a monastery at Manoppello in the Abruzzi Mountains about two hours from Rome. Pope Benedict was supposed to visit there in March and see the veil.:clapping:

No - the Turin shroud is said to be the gravecloth in which Christ’s body was wrapped for burial, the one which was found in the empty tomb by the Apostles after the Resurrection.

Veronica’s veil (which is called the Mandylion) is, I believe, the subject of a number of traditions among our Eastern and Orthodox brothers. Perhaps one of them can enlighten us?

It is, however, a separate item to the Shroud, being the cloth with which Christ’s face was wiped by Veronica on his way to his Crucifixion. There is no indication that this was the same cloth he was wrapped in as his burial shroud.

It may interest you to know that the separate cloth which would have covered Christ’s face for burial is kept in a church somewhere in Spain (the location escapes me) but underwent analysis and has blood on it of the same type as the Turin Shroud

At one time, before I rediscovered my faith, I was interested in the stories from the Apocrypha. Now I find the Gospels much more interesting. Being much closer to the actual events, they are much more likely historical truth. Their consistency with external historical facts continues to amaze the more I dig in to them

that’s really interesting! the same blood too? i was gobsmacked when i read that! i must dig deeper…

that’s what i always wonder. why were they left out the bible? i read the NIV version, the king james was a bit like wading through treacle at time. or are they in the douay rheims bible?
