"Vestibule," "Narthex," or "Gathering Space" ???

In my parish:
  • Gatheriong Space
  • Worship Space
  • Gathering Song
  • Preparation of the Gifts
  • Closing Song
  • Table (never Altar)
  • Meal (never ‘Sacrifice’)
  • Reconciliation (never “Confession” or “Sacrament of Penance”)
  • Youth Minister, Sound Minister, Welcome Minister, Song Minister

In the Base Chapels where I attended many a Mass it was the “vestibule”, the same with the Churches I attended.

Gathering space is definitely not a term I am familiar with, Parish Hall, social room (protestant term) but not gathering space. Maybe I have just been lucky enough to not ever to have been in a parish that was that “modern”😛

Me three. The narthex is what the Lutheran church here calls that space (which is quite roomy). In our parish it is the vestible and is rather small–maybe 5 strides from the outer doors to the inner, but runs the length of the front of the building.

Lecturn instead of Ambo
Worship Aid instead of Missalette
Minister of Hospitality instead of Usher
Community instead of Church or Parish

I know of a parish that has an “Adult Computer Education Ministry.”

Not a “bad” term; there is no canonical term, to my knowledge that is to be used.

What IS a church? Of course this term is correct!

Again, no real preference - unless you want to use “Entrance Antiphon”, which usually isn’t even accurate. Personally I prefer “Entrance Hymn”, but it’s really all just semantics.
  • Preparation of the Gifts
THIS IS the name of it in the mass. It is no longer “offertory”.
  • Closing Song
Not even a part of the mass. Call it whatever you want or omit it.
  • Table (never Altar)
Not inherrantly wrong, although Altar IS the technical term. Table drives home the point well though, as does meal.
  • Meal (never ‘Sacrifice’)
  • Reconciliation (never “Confession” or “Sacrament of Penance”)
Again, not wrong.

Not MY particular choice of words, but those ARE all ministries.

You got us pegged on all counts - except “Worship Aid” - our priest doesn’t like them. He says people should listen at Mass and not read, and whatever they hear they hear, whatever they miss it must mean God just didn’t mean for them to hear it. No kidding.
By the way - it’s never ‘Mass’ , it’s always ‘the Liturgy’. In over a decade I can never remember our priest saying the word ‘Mass’.

I bring my own missal to Mass because I have a hard time processing (paying-as-close-attention-as-I-should-kindofADD) information that I hear alone. I need the written word to compliment my understanding of what is being read in Scripture. I’d recommend anyone whose parish doesn’t provide missalettes to buy their own Missals.

I can understand a parish discontinuing the use of Missalettes if they need to save money.

I can’t understand a pastor feeling the need to control people by taking away missalettes. His opinion of how the faithful should “digest” scripture is just that - his opinion and he shouldn’t impose it on his entire parish.
 
That space in my very old Gothic-style church is called a “gathering space.” 😃
 
Vestibule is the word I heard used while in Catholic School.

I think gathering space is a modern term
