Indeed! I thought to harm youself/to neglect your health = sin against the 5th Commandment. At least this is what I’ve been taught since childhood. There is no such thing as Victim Soul.In the 2,000 years of Christianity^s existence, wild & wacky ideas come to the forefront sometimes & abuses take place.Whether its the medeval belief that whipping yourself till you bleed is pleasing to God or that pursuit of suffering is of God^s pleasue. Clothing the naked, helping the poor, visting widows or the lonely, forgiving your brethren etc is what God calls u to do.James teaches that true religion is what I just said. Penance is to be done in a healthy reasnable manner. That is what is pleasing to God
Besides, to claim that new sufferings of innocents are needed to appease God’s wrath is simply to deny the value of Jesus Christ’s suffering. As He were just a weird masochist, interesting enough to be considered a role model, but whose teaching is completely ignored when it comes to the SATISFACTORY role of His crucification.
Hebrews 7:23-28
Furthermore, the former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office; but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues for ever. Consequently he is able for all time to save those who approach God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
For it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, blameless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he has no need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for those of the people; this he did once for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints as high priests those who are subject to weakness, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect for ever.
