Well said, Dave. That makes simple and perfect sense to me in a nutshell!

God bless,
Carole

Here is St. Therese in her own words. As we can see, this was an explicit request; one made in response to the most intimate of inner promptings. It is heroic in nature and goes way beyond what we call “offering it up:”
Story Of A Soul:
Act of Oblation to Merciful Love
Offering of myself as a Victim of Holocaust to God’s Merciful Love

O My God! Most Blessed Trinity, I desire to Love You and make You Loved, to work for the glory of Holy Church by saving souls on earth and liberating those suffering in purgatory. I desire to accomplish Your will perfectly and to reach the degree of glory You have prepared for me in Your Kingdom. I desire, in a word, to be a saint, but I feel my helplessness and I beg You, O my God! to be Yourself my Sanctity!

Since You loved me so much as to give me Your only Son as my Savior and my Spouse, the infinite treasures of His merits are mine. I offer them to You with gladness, begging You to look upon me only in the Face of Jesus and in His heart burning with Love.

I offer You, too, all the merits of the saints (in heaven and on earth), their acts of Love, and those of the holy angels. Finally, I offer You, O Blessed Trinity! the Love and merits of the Blessed Virgin, my dear Mother. It is to her I abandon my offering, begging her to present it to You. Her Divine Son, my Beloved Spouse, told us in the days of His mortal life: Whatsoever you ask the Father in my name he will give it to you! I am certain, then, that You will grant my desires; I know, O my God! that the more You want to give, the more You make us desire. I feel in my heart immense desires and it is with confidence I ask You to come and take possession of my soul. Ah! I cannot receive Holy Communion as often as I desire, but, Lord, are You not all-powerful? Remain in me as in a tabernacle and never separate Yourself from Your little victim.

I want to console You for the ingratitude of the wicked, and I beg of You to take away my freedom to displease You. If through weakness I sometimes fall, may Your Divine Glance cleanse my soul immediately, consuming all my imperfections like the fire that transforms everything into itself.

I thank You, O my God! for all the graces You have granted me, especially the grace of making me pass through the crucible of suffering. It is with joy I shall contemplate You on the Last Day carrying the scepter of Your Cross. Since You deigned to give me a share in this very precious Cross, I hope in heaven to resemble You and to see shining in my glorified body the sacred stigmata of Your Passion.

After earth’s Exile, I hope to go and enjoy You in the Fatherland, but I do not want to lay up merits for heaven. I want to work for Your Love alone with the one purpose of pleasing You, consoling Your Sacred Heart, and saving souls who will love You eternally.

In the evening of this life, I shall appear before You with empty hands, for I do not ask You, Lord, to count my works. All our justice is stained in Your eyes. I wish, then, to be clothed in Your own Justice and to receive from Your Love the eternal possession of Yourself. I want no other Throne, no other crown but You, my beloved!

Time is nothing in Your eyes, and a single day is like a thousand years. You can, then, in one instant prepare me to appear before You.

In order to live in one single act of perfect Love, I OFFER MYSELF AS A VICTIM OF HOLOCAUST TO YOUR MERCIFUL LOVE asking You to consume me incessantly, allowing the waves of infinite tenderness shut up within You to overflow into my soul, and that thus I may become a martyr of Your Love, O my God!

May this martyrdom, after having prepared me to appear before You, finally cause me to die and may my soul take its flight without any delay into the eternal embrace of Your Merciful Love.

I want, O my Beloved, at each beat of my heart to renew this offering to You an infinite number of times, until the shadows having disappeared I may be able to tell You of my Love in an Eternal Face to Face!

Can the request be refused or one go into a “dark night” thinking it was refused? Tim

Well, in my opinion, God knows what we’re able to do and He will ask no more than we’re capable of giving – some more, some less. The key, as St. Therese tells us, is our desire and recognizing where it comes from:
I know, O my God! that the more You want to give, the
more You make us desire.
As Carole said, this is all grace, for it is God Himself who places this type of desire in souls. He will then fortify the soul to carry out the desire of it’s heart; to endure what must be endured.

The main difference, I guess, between a saint like Therese and all of us was the “grandness” of her desire and that it be continually offered with “every beat of her heart.” But even she didn’t fully know what her request would ultimately entail . . . the trial of faith mentioned in the previous post. This, again my opinion, was something way beyond what is normally described as the “Dark Night” for it is clear she had already been brought to the transforming union.

Don’t know if that helped or not . . .

Dave.

Joysong: you did help me. Thanks so much! I will keep you in my prayers! God Bless!!

QUOTE=DL82;2074733]From what I’ve read on Saints who became Victim Souls, all of them seem to already have been enduring great suffering as a result of illness or persecution, and decided to ‘offer it up’ as a service to God.***

Hi it is good to hear from those who see a depth in loving God this way in your thoughts there is no other deeper way than to Love with a heart that gives God the ability to take and do with you what He wishes. You might find a book called “The way of Divine Love” Sister Ferstena. I will say no more there.**

/COLOR]Would it be immoral for a healthy young man to offer up his life to be a Victim Soul? I have always felt a certain kind of calling to do things the hard way, and that if I’m enjoying things I’m not following God’s call. The Catholic concept of the victim soul does have a certain kind of appeal. I realise it’s a massive, and frightening, commitment. I am drawn to it all the same.

You might try to remember that it does not matter if a person is healthy in the flesh because it is the Spirit God wants. Some were very healthy, (the Apostles). It is’nt that daunting it is more letting the thoughts of the flesh go and think of how much God loves you and how you want to give back what He gave you.
It is His doing. My mother asked me some 30 years ago if I knew what I was doing because although a christian she thought it wrong. But my heart was already decided in that direction. God then gave me the person He decided would help me the best in the road He wished for me it was St Therese the little flower.

Of course, there are other connected issues. I am my dad’s only child, and he lost his Christian faith when my mum died of a prolonged cancer. I don’t know how he’d deal with me living a life of great suffering. Also, I am engaged to be married, and I know my fiancee wants me to lighten up and enjoy life more. I think she’d blame herself for my suffering, as she’s always worried about being a burden to others, and might make a connection that isn’t really there.

*** Remember Jesus is the only son of God and God NEVER gives any more than we can take, part of the blessing could be directed towards your father shunning but remember Jesus told us that the person who cannot let go of their parents or others are not worthy of Him, some people take letting go the wrong way it does not meen to neglect or dis own them. For 1 it may not be His will that you go through that thought you have, If I told you what has happened to me you might cry but it is not that way because God gives the love you need He also gives gifts that most could not only, never get, but would not even understand. That is the difference between those who are victim souls and those who are not. The act of being a victim soul is the closes to God we can be on this earth. ***
On balance, do I need to suffer not being allowed to suffer, if that makes any sense, and offer that up to God instead?*

*** Yes it makes sence, remember that you don’t go straight into suffering if that is what is asked but it is a gradual process that is governed by God’s pure love for you and His never giving any more than you can take… he also gives those who will be so strong and neer you to help you go into the process of giving how and when He wishes. There are so many gifts that you will be showered with that others will want to know about. ***

God bless you

Hi everyone. Haven’t been here lately. Still don’t have some things clarified. 1) does God “choose” his victim souls?
2)can a person choose to become a victim soul?

I believe, through reading, that God chooses those He will give this great grace to, and the recipient decides to cooperate with the grace given or not. Anyone have any answers? Help, please!

mom4truth:confused:

Hi again, Mom, nice to see you.

Kind of an extreme example, but suppose we decide in prayer that we would like to bear the stigmata similar to Padre Pio or St. Francis, and ask God for that grace so that we can cooperate in the salvation of others. A very beautiful pure intention begotten our of much love for God.

However, if God sees we are incapable of perseverance with that suffering and is not calling us to that heroic degree of victim-ness, He lovingly denies that petition. Instead, He may incline the soul to offer up little things as far as they are able. To those who are faithful in little, some day He could inspire them to cooperate in a much deeper degree, such as asking to be a victim of love.

So yes, I think grace does lead and prepare the way in proportion to our cooperation in lesser matters, and the person is free to follow or not. Remember Jesus’s words, first the grain, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. We go step by step, as nature itself teaches us.

Clear as mud?

Hi Joysong,

I agree with you. (Clearer than mud!) I think that any little hardship we offer to God counts for something; perhaps, alot! I was just wondering what the Church Doctrine says about this.

Thank you and God bless you.
