A video by the Dominus Regnavit YouTube channel talking about the “pagan origins” of the celebration of Christmas on Dec. 25.

I was actually watching EWTN and Fr. Mitch Pacwa was saying people always bring up something like “it was too cold for the shepherds to be in the field”, and, he pointed out that he’s been to Israel around Christmastime, Bethlehem even, and said he sees shepherds every time he goes there Christmastime.

I keep reminding people that Palestine does not have the same climate as much of America and Northern Europe. It’s kind of like when they make it seem like it would be too cold to have sheep out. Well, sheep have this thing called “wool”. If we make sweaters out of it to keep us warm out of wool, why wouldn’t it keep the sheep warm? Where I live, the weather is a bit warmer than most of the US, and unless there’s a hard freeze, you can still find livestock outside this time of year. (I just checked, it’s 49 F in Bethlehem right now, and partly cloudy, and the high is going to be 59 F Christmas day, with a low of 43 F). Not only is it warm enough here, it’s warm enough there.
