Video Bethlehem Star

Did anyone see the documentary entitled Bethlehem Star on EWTN last year? Does anyone know how accurate this guys findings are regarding the constellations and dates mentioned surrounding the Magi and the crucifiction?
 
Yes – I remember seeing it last year. It sounded pretty believable while watching it, but I never really dug into the facts to see how much of it added up.
 
I think it’s folly trying to determine a natural–or totally natural–explanation for the Star.

St. John Chrysostom said that the star was a special vision given to the Magi. There might have been some natural astronomical phenomenon that God used to get their attention, but I believe that the star that “went before them” and “stood over the place where the young Child was” was a vision given to them alone.

The Troparion for the Nativity explains it best:

Your Nativity, O Christ our God
Has shown upon the world the light of wisdom,
For by it, those who worshipped the stars
Were taught by a star to worship You,
The Sun of Righteousness,
And to know You, the Orient from on high.
O Lord, glory to You!
 
Humans are naturally curious and it is not folly.

If there are reports of stigmata, it is not folly for a doctor to examine.

If there are reports of a miraculous event in the realm of astronomy, it is natural for scientists to try and discover an explanation.

I agree, but that’s not the angle used in the video. It would be one thing if Richard Dawkins made it, but Rick Larson is a Christian. And the producer is Steven McEveety, a Catholic - the man who produced The Passion of the Christ.

The angle here is basically that God started this chain of astronomical events at the moment of creation that would align the star to guide the Magi to Bethlehem. So they are definitely not trying to give a natural explanation, but the supernatural one, and debunking that the star is a myth.

ETA - I have watched the first 15 minutes or so and hope to watch the rest today. It seems pretty credible so far.
 
Matthew 2:9 is a good reason to believe the star was not a “star”. St John Chrysostom said so too
