Video games as a coping mechanism

I find that mini games or apps help to relax the prefrontal cortex, supposedly making one function “better”. Even peeling a potatoe with a knife and not a peeler exercises the brain, or practicing an intricate knitting pattern.

For a long time I thought that video games were sinful and of no value, until I read that it may help those living with chronic illness, physical or mental. I am talking about adults here with fully grown brains.

As for praying, when I am too worried to pray, I will just let out my emotions, e.g. anger and talk to God, even if it is just a simple “I am sorry about today”. But you must really mean it.

Offtopic: As for kids I think that video games are “quasi-addictive” and that they should be monitored strictly! Lest they lose contact with friends or schoolwork. Both girls and boys.

Kids should be spending time READING and learning about PHYSICAL skills in the garden. School doesn’t teach these things.

In moderation I think playing a game is fine, we are attracted by the power thing and the pretty sparkly lights though.

Sincere prayer is the only worthwhile way to pray because God knows our hearts but we should do our best and He knows that too.

I think children should be equipped for life in as many healthy ways as possible. Exercise is also great and sets them up for better health in adulthood and hopefully they retain the knowledge of the benefits of exercise too. That of course can be had in gardening or carpentry or outdoor practical work as well as indoor pursuits.

Whole healthy adults is what we need after all, and that includes a good grounding in religion, preferably Catholicism!
