I’ve gone back through the archives as I’m sure this has been asked before, but I cannot find a thread.

Can anyone recommend good videos that could supplement an RCIA program? Specifically, I’m looking for videos that explain the “whys” of what Catholics do.

To provide background for those interested, my husband is currently in RCIA and has been disappointed in it thus far. He comes from a reformed background that taught pretty heavily against the Catholic Church. I never realized how strongly anti-Catholic he was raised until shortly after our daughter was born. He had spent most of his adult life attending nondenominational Protestant churches. I am a cradle Catholic and have spent our four years of marriage gently teaching him about Catholicism. One day over the summer I was perusing these forums for resources for Protestants and came across a reply someone had given suggesting The Mass Explained by Michael Cumbie (I cannot find that post anymore). I watched the video and decided to share it with my husband as a “hey this guy understands your perspective!” That video wound up being the tipping point that sent him to sign up for RCIA.

Well, now he’s in RCIA (at my childhood parish that we both love) and it’s lacking. So far he has felt that it is very Christian 101 with almost no time allotted for questioning. I’ve tried to be encouraging saying that we can all learn something even of we feel established as far as being a Christian, but I want to offer him something more. I know he’s looking to be able to answer (esp to his evangelical family) why Catholic? He has the “Call to Continuing Conversion” at the cathedral in a couple weeks and is inviting his family. I know he’d feel more confident if he had stronger answers prepared.

He’s not much of a reader, but has started reading my copy of The Lamb’s Supper (Hahn). I will be looking to try to get more books in audio format. However, I’m most interested in links to videos online if some exist.

Thank you!

We use both Fr. Baron’s Catholicism, and Symbolon…Symbolon is nice because each presentation is broken down into 2 parts, so depending how much time you have, you don’t have to show the entire DVD…however, it is not nearly as captivating as the Catholicism series.

Good Luck!

Same here. Excellent resource.

I would also recommend Symbolon. It is what we are using for RCIA in my parish. That is what it was designed for. It leaves plenty of time for questions and discussion, too.

It moves pretty quick, though, so – although it does touch on a lot of the more basic apologetics debates – it doesn’t have the time to go in depth into each one. It’s meant to be a solid overview of the Catholic faith, and it does that rather well.

If you’re looking for online stuff, you might try looking at Fr. Robert Barron’s Word on Fire YouTube channel. He’s got lots of videos online.

I found this one guy whos videos are awesome.

Background: We’re using the “Catholicism” dvd series in my RCIA class, but I was hoping for something a bit more lecture-style. Long story short, I was kicking around YouTube and found this guy who videos his RCIA classes, which are just hour-long lectures with some QA stuff too.
Not certain if they’ll be a good fit for you, but I found them really great and I think they compliment the dvds we’re watching in my “real” RCIA class nicely.

Thank you to all for the kind replies! I’ve already requested “Catholicism” from my local library and going to check the church library for the others. The YouTube stuff has been excellent as well. Your replies were exactly what I was looking for - I truly appreciate the help!
