Vile anti-Catholic bigotry on evangelical radio show

I sometimes listen to an evangelical radio show during my commute and for the most part their content is compatible with Catholic thoughts particularly on issues of morality and family. However, I will occasionally listen to a talk show on this station (WVNE out of Worcester, Mass.) called “Engaging your world”. The host of this program is a man by the name of Tom Crouse and he is a rabid anti-Catholic. He constantly bashes the church and will make general statements such as “all priests are pedophiles” and then paints the Church as sinister and evil. Today he went on a rant about Pope Benedict and his role in 2001 regarding the sex abuse scandal. He referred to the Pope as Pope “Joey” and kept saying that he was corrupt and was the head of the “Man/Boy Love Association” as a reference to the church scandal. Several times he called the Catholic church disgusting and made completely distorted and false statements about the church on the air - it was unbelievably hateful and bigoted. He went so far as to call on all people to do what they could to empty the Vatican of all those “old pedophile priests”. Can someone like this get away with saying these things without impunity or is there a way to put a stop to this dangerous kook?
 
That’s pretty much just like the things you’ll here on NPR on a regular basis 😉
 
I’d write the radio station w/ a few of his irresponsible quotes and find out if their sponsors support religious bigots.To say nothing of just plain dumb folk.

I agree. This has no place on the airwaves as a sponsored program.
 
Unfortunately, since this is a evangelical station, they will probably see complaints as if they are doing their jobs right.

Go ahead and complain to the radio station, but you could also send a letter to each of the sponsors whose advertisements you hear on the station, then let us know who they are:)

Two sponsers of this radio program in the Worcester, Mass. area are: Opaline Sports which has a website at www.softballhitting.com and Empire Mortgage Services which has a website at www.empiremortgage.com
I encourage people to contact these sponsors to get rid of this guy.
I’ve also contacted the Catholic League.
 
This talk show host was obsessing over the “evil” of the Catholic church again. On yesterday’s show, Mr. Krause was focusing on a case out of Worcester, Mass. - this case involved a priest who allegedly engaged in lewd conduct with another individual during a vacation to Las Vegas last year. Although Krause had good reason to be concerned about this priest and his apparent misdeeds, he parlayed this one case into a long and intense rant about the “evils” of the Catholic church. He said that Catholics are blind sheep and that most of us are probably going to hell because we believe in false doctrine (his false claim of salvation through works). He also referred to the church as the most “disgusting, corrupt and criminal organization out there” and he begged all catholics to turn from their “ignorant and blind” ways and start going to a Bible believing church (in other words, an evangelical church like his own). This rant must have lasted for a good 30 minutes (the show is only one hour). Towards the end of the show he invited callers to call in and one caller (who clearly was a catholic) started gently challenging him about the issue of authority and clearly was winning the argument but eventually Krause had to cut him off. Please call or write to the show or the sponsor above and express your dissappointment with this hate-filled anti-catholic pastor. He preaches a message of distortion and hate and needs to to be stopped or reprimanded!
 
This is not rare these days on either am radio or shortwave. Anti-Catholic bigotry is alive and well all over. There was a segment on the today show about some supposed “secret” church organization. I didn’t watch it, but I suppose it was part of the promotion for the movie, the Da Vinci Code. There will be a feeding frenzy by the media, when the movie is released.
 
I don’t suppose he thinks the sexploits of Jimmy Swaggart or Jim Bakker discredits evangelical protestantism.

Nah, that would be too consistant.
 
Somebody should call into his show and ask him where the Bible came from, and how it survived for so many centuries.

I think that the above comment painting with too wide a brush. I’ve been involved in the evangelical radio world all my life in different capacities and I think that this kind of rabid anti-Catholicism is very rare. And to insinuate that “they” would take pleasure in riling up Catholics is completely unwarrented. This one host would probably be happy but to imply that just b/c they are an evanglical station everyone there would be happy about Catholic’s being angry is just absurd. I have met very few anti-Catholic evangelicals (we’re not talking about fundamentalist protestants) and think this comment is absurd.
 
I guess the most powerful thing to do is to pray that Mr. Crause will come to know that despite the human sinfulness of some of the members of the Catholic church, it is indeed the true church.
