I am to be baptised Catholic this coming Easter.

I have practiced buddhist meditation for a while now.

I regularly attend meditation retreats; and I even lived in a monastery.

At the RCIA, I was told that since it was secular meditation, it was fine for a Catholic.

However the parish priest where I attend Mass was offended that I practice buddhist meditation.

So who is correct?

There is buddhist philosophy discussed at the camps, however I should emphasize that it is extremely similar to the teachings of Jesus.

I would like to continue this practice, as it helps me personally a great deal.

The main problem that some see with Buddist meditation is the intent of the meditation itself. If your goal is to empty yourself of self and become one with everything, it is anti-Christian. If your goal is to calm yourself that you may better hear God, there is no problem. Personally, I pray the rosary for that goal.
