Has anyone visited EWTN in Birmingham. We are planning a trip to Alabama this Summer and I wonder if it is worth taking the family to EWTN? Their site lists a studio tour. I see that you can sit in on some of the live shows. But I wonder if they would be appropriate for my 5 and 10 year old boys. Any advice and or things to do in Alabama would be appreciated.

Although not fluent in Alabama, I have been to EWTN.

I am not sure, unless they love the shows, whether sitting in on the studio would be worthwhile for the children. However, near EWTN, there is a “Grotto” containing scale replicas of many pilgrimage sites (such as Lourdes, the Vatican, and Jerusalem) built by a monk about 75 years ago.

By all means, go to Mass at the church in Hanceville associated with them. Not only is it a beautiful church, it houses life-size illuminations of the Shroud of Turin.

Bon Voyage and ICXC NIKA.

It would be much better to visit the Shrine and monastery that Mother Angelica built. I’ve been to both dozens of times on school trips, and my students much preferred the Shrine which is north of there.
