Visiting the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

It is definitely a “must-do” trip. You won’t regret it. I highly recommend getting there first thing and planning to spend the entire day there. You don’t want to be rushed and it takes awhile to go through, especially if you want to take the time to really appreciate every detail.

And the JPII shrine is a must see! I recommend checking that out on a different day, though or you just won’t have time to really see and appreciate everything. We spent hours in there, aside from the time we spent in the Basilica.

You’re absolutely right, masondoggy. I went with my group yesterday and 4 1/2 hours wasn’t enough. We were under time restraints because we were traveling from NJ in a single day.

Despite that, it was one of the most beautiful, profound experiences since becoming Catholic in July. Just being there with the thought that so many saints and religious have been in that very place was a humbling moment.

I would love to be able to go back someday and spend a weekend there.
 
After my first and only visit there I decided to donate yearly to the Basilica. I feel that is my obligation and I desire to.
