I am currently in college and I am trying to discern whether I am called to marriage or priesthood. Priesthood has been on my mind a lot recently, but I am worried because I want to get married and have a family. There is a girl I like who I may date, and this has led me to think more about marriage. But when I pray I think about priesthood and become anxious. I want to do God’s will, but I am having trouble figuring out exactly what that is. If it is priesthood, I am not sure what I will do. I have been praying for openness and trust, but it has been difficult. I plan on meeting with a spiritual director soon, but any advice would be great! God bless!

Are you also meeting with the vocations director of your diocese? He’s probably dealt with plenty of young men like you torn between marriage and the priesthood – I’m sure he’ll know what to do.

You are more likely to get good advice from whomever is the vocational director (or whatever title) for the diocese than you are in a forum. Call you dioceses and ask who is in charge of vocations.

And that is not to minimize a spiritual director in any way; but the person in charge of vocations is focused on that specifically.

God does not leave us to discern on our own.

Visit your Diocese vocations page. Start there.

I’m in college away from home, so I can’t go talk to my vocations director from my diocese. I could send try to send him an email possibly.

Why not talk to the one in the diocese your college located? You’re not required to speak to the one in your home diocese. If your college is like how mine was, then the one for your college will occasionally visit, which has that benefit.

This might help! Will pray for you! Oh do we need holy priest but also holy marriages!
It is a song with English and Spanish – check it out!

I’d suggest rather than seeking out a vocation director that you find a spiritual director instead. A spiritual director is usually a holy and learned priest that you seek out and visit with (typically once a month) about your spiritual life (including vocation). He has no skin in the game, so to speak, and may be able to focus on you rather than how many seminarians he has recruited.
