Hello does seminarian studying for priesthood get a weekly stipend or wage when studying to be a priest as I know this takes 6-7 years or longer?

Depends on the diocese. My diocese paid for tuition, room and board, and fees to the seminary, as well as textbooks and travel to and from the seminary at the beginning of each semester. Because they covered the majority of our expenses, we didn’t get a regular stipend or anything, though the Knights of Columbus sent us checks about three times a year to help support us. When assigned to a parish after college or pre-theology, we received a stipend from the parish we were assigned to for the summer.

Why do you ask?

just wondering do I need to work a part time I’m looking to apply to the Franciscans in Ireland I think Ennis but I was also interested in Jerusalem and obviously I will need money to cover bills and clothes etc.

As Father said, it depends upon the diocese. Your best bet to get definitive answers for your particular situation is to contact the diocese(s) you are considering for your seminary training and ask them.

Our Diocese houses, feeds, pays for education and books for all of their Seminarians. Young men may enter the Discernment House when they graduate High School.

Various groups in the Diocese will “adopt a Seminarian” and send him gifts and spending money.

thanks little lady I was just worried that seven years without money would be worrying.

An order like the Franciscans will be different than a secular priest, but, speak to the Vocations Director. They are likely going to want you to enter debt free, so, if any of the bills are debts (student loans, credit cards, car notes) you would pay those off before you enter. The order would feed and clothe you.

If you are part of a religious order like the Franciscans, the order will provide for you in every way. That includes clothes, tuition, books, room (probably at the closest friary, not the “seminary”), food, transportation, small stipend…literally everything. That’s part of the Franciscan vow of poverty… all trust is turned over to God, all material needs are turned over to the Order. A part-time job almost certainly would not be allowed, although your formators may have you involved with some sort of ministry for formational purposes only. Even in that case you’d receive no money beyond the support and stipend the order provides you.
Just for clarification, what kind of bills do you mean?

Only minor expenses I’m worried about as long as I’m getting transport and housing/food taken care off im happy out !

Not sure there is such a thing as “normal order”.

If you are considering joining an order, then living within the order (postulant, novice, etc.) is going to be different than joining a seminary; you live in community so your needs are provided for.

And as a point, if you feel you have a vocation to the priesthood, that is not a guarantee that in joining, you will be on a priestly track. That would be decided by the order based upon whatever their criteria are in general, and in specific as applied to you. As noted, you need to speak with the individual in charge of vocations.

Many councils still support our seminarians. My council is currently support 2, one of whom will be ordained next year.
