I havent given very many updates on the status of my vocation recently, so I’ll do so now.

I am hoping to enter the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest next year. I will be going to Chicago for a few days in mid-September to meet with Monsignor Schmitz, the Vicar General of the Institute and American Superior. I know two young men in England who are entering preformation for the Institute this September, so please keep them in your prayers.

My spiritual director is pushing me to organize my daily life, get a routine set up, and such. I know he is right, but my life recently has really been full of randomosity, which is harmful to self-discipline. So I am trying to get some sort of plan of life going. I will be attending a two-day seminar at the Opus Dei center in Toronto later this month on the value of human life.

I am still attending the Cathedral here most of the time. Once a month I attend, and serve at, the Traditional Latin Mass (since it is only offered monthly at the moment). We were hoping that by August we would have a weekly Mass. No such luck yet, but it will happen- hopefully sooner then later.

Thats the main points. I’ll try to post some more updates as they come or check out my new blog- Memorare.

Ciao,

Jon

Jon:

I was on the Institute’s website a few days ago, and it seemed rather ambiguous to me–it doesn’t seem to clearly outline who their priestly formation, and speaks little about their seminary. I know that they train priests in the Tridentine Mass, and many young men dream of going there, since it is quite close to Rome. I imagine that attending it is quite expensive, though. I know that Our Lady of Guadalupe charges 7000 USD per year (7 years). What about the Institute. Also, what about lives of graduates after they have been ordained?

Thanks,

Mat.

Jon, what does your director have to say about the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest? Does he support your interest in it?

Oh, and that kitten on your blog - that’s just plain wrong! 😃

I vaguely thought about entering a “old rite” Institute/Fraternity, but with the Motu Proprio I really saw no point, especially since I aspire, God Willing, to be a diocesan priest (because I feel that we need more good orthodox diocesan priests to actually teach the laity, instead of going off to a institute/order that very little may come across).

That is just my opinion though…

There is more information on Seminary formation on the Institute’s main website, which is in French. Also, the packages they have sent me include a great deal of information.

The Seminary at Gricigliano costs about the same as OLG Seminary in Nebraska; however it has been stressed to me that no seminarian is turned away for lack of money- many of the seminarians cannot pay, or can only pay a part of the tuition. The Institute has a program called “Adopt a Seminarian” which deals with this, and I know that there are a good number of well-to-do patrons of the Institute around (the European nobility is known to be quite traditional).

Although my spiritual director is an Opus Dei priest who uses the Novus Ordo, he sees no problem with the Tridentine Mass. For one thing, Opus Dei priests usually celebrate the Novus Ordo in Latin at Ad Orientum Altars; another is that my spiritual director was ordained in the Old Rite (by none other then Pope Paul VI himself).

I prefer a traditional order or priestly society like the Institute or FSSP because of the traditional formation (among other things).

Yes, I’m very familiar, having attended many of these Masses over the years. I was wondering what your SD thought about you going into this formation - whether he’s supportive of your plans.
