This was a very good vocation video. There are three parts to it and it tells some individual stories.

BTW, the video was made by the Knights of Columbus. I think it shows the Priesthood in an excellent light (watch all three sections). Should be an encouragement to anyone considering a call to the Priesthood.

A Sister I took a class from in university once said that these times of trial (such as the Reformation) did not cause her concern because God used them to purify and correct the course of the church. I think this will be the case with the scandals surrounding abuse and the management of it. The church will recover and the priesthood will emerge stronger if it stays orthodox. This is where I have an appreciation for Pope Benedict. I pray that his successor also adheres to an orthodox Catholic course. In times of uncertainty people look to the church for answers. The clergy and laity need to know what they believe, why and on whom they believe.

Whether or not various denominations agree theologically with the Catholic Church there is no doubt that the church has a major role in leadership in the world in terms of the shared Christian faith, morals and so on.

We all need to pray that the Lord will raise up men strong in terms of morals and faith who will serve the cause of Christ with conviction.

Thank you, RevDrNorth! I watched the video yesterday. I really liked it and ended up watching more related videos on that page. Thank you also for you comments. Through all such scandals, I’ve come to appreciate more the works and dedications of the holy priests and the roles of the Church in the world and to pray for all priests and those who are given the responsiblities to lead their flocks.

I am currently reading “I will give you shepherds” - Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation of Pope John Paul II.

Yes and I am sure that it is a particular suffering for them to be lumped in with unfaithful clergy who did not live up to their obligations.

The failure to live up to that obligation crosses lines. Sexual and financial scandals have involved both Catholic and non Catholic clergy. This is shameful but not everyone who claims to be Christian or is a clergy person is truly a follower of Christ.

This is where that core of committed Christians (Catholic and Protestant) and clergy (Catholic and Protestant) dedicated to holiness and living out their vocations is so important. Pope JPII quoting scripture said, “Be not afraid” and certainly we need not be afraid. Nothing will ever overcome Christ’s church.

We need to continue to pray for vocations to the Priesthood and for lay prayer warriors who live out their vocation in support of priests, the church and one another. This is an area where I think that the Catholic Church offers so many options to lay Catholics in terms of Secular Orders (Third Orders), Confraternities and others ways to increase and focus particular spiritual disciplines. Each is unique in the same way people and their calling are unique.
