I am a married father of 5 young children (10,8, 4, 3, 1 1/2). I am a cradle Catholic who never gave my faith much thought until about 5 years ago. I never prayed about my vocation, I never really gave it much thought, I am happily married and I thank God fot that. I want to teach my children to pray for what their vocation might one day be. At what age do they start to discern that? In what way can we (wife and I) foster that? If they want to marry - fine, if they want to become religious - fine, single - fine. So what age should one begin to discuss this with a child? In what way should it be approached?

heyu diz, welcome back, missed ya
I guess if we raise our children to be obedient, to be humble, to trust in God, to always seek to do God’s will, to listen to God speak through scripture and those he sends to teach us–church, priests, parents, catechists etc. we are putting them on the right road. Also when we demonstrate how we make life decisions, where to work, where to live, how much to give to charity etc. on the basis of discerning God’s will, and let our children know how and why our family sets its priorities, we are educating them to recognize vocation when it calls.
