I was praying the rosary earlier and halfway through the third mystery a voice said “don’t drink” I was wondering was this Our Lady? I do drink but I’m only a sociable drinker. I also have OCD/Scrupulosity which I can be paranoid and need reassurance at times. I am worrying about what the voice meant or who it was? Or if it was Our Lady or my guardian angel? I am afraid now that something will happen the next time I drink is it my OCD while I was praying? I am praying fervently at the moment for help with OCD as it gets my down at times and I really want to be healed so much, is the voiced connected to this?

I’m no expert on this, but I feel that I have had experiences in prayer where someone (Holy Spirit, guardian angel, etc) is guiding me.

If you struggle with OCD and you are trying to beat it, perhaps stepping away from alcohol is a good step. Whether this is a message from God or your conscience speaking, it will not hurt to give up alcohol completely. I, too, am a social drinker, and I believe in everything in moderation. But it is perfectly respectable to step away from alcohol for health or spiritual reasons. There’s a lot of situations in which our lives would be better without drinking than with.

I guess my point is, whether or not it was Our Lady speaking to you, it’s worth a try!

Talk to your priest. We cannot say what or who the voice was.

Did anything else happen at the time? I would also consult your confessor/spiritual director about it; but it also can’t hurt to make sure that you’re drinking modestly 🙂

I can only think of three real possibilities. But first I went to look up OCD, and found it means Obsessive-Compulsive-Disorder, which means that you can waste a lot of time on compulsive or obsessive activity or thinking.

Having said that, the “voice” can only have 3 origins -
  1. Yourself, and you probably know enough to know whether it came from you or not.
  2. A divine or angelic source, in which case it may indicate alcohol is a problem, or could be a problem, for you with your OCD, particularly if you’re taking medication. Once again, you would know the answer to this, since we don’t know you well enough. Is Alcohol a problem?
  3. A demonic origin, and frankly I think this is the source, since what’s it’s done is to get you obsessing about one more thing, which may not even have been a problem before you heard the “voice”.
I’m inclined to think it was the third, just getting you to sink right back into being obsessive about an issue that quite possibly doesn’t even exist. It will also have the effect of making you a bit leery of doing the Rosary.if it can be get you worried enough.

So unless you really have a problem with alcohol, or it makes your condition worse, I’d say the source is demonic, and I’d suggest you just ignore it, and keep doing your rosaries.
