Um… I must’ah missed something. WHY do we want to vote for U2 versus Michael Jackson for being the most impactful entertainer in the last 25 years?

What did I miss?

Your vote counts and I would appreciate it if you sell out and buy into what I’m saying for just a few minutes, enough time to tick the box in U2’s favour. Cheers!

:ehh:

WHY would I vote for Bono ? he puts his oar in about what is happening in the North of Ireland, it’s easy to speak about a situation he never lived in.

Harrasment by the secyrity forces, Internment of Catholics without trial, RUC breaking down our doors (Royal Ulster Constabulary)
Harrising us and keeping us at checkpoints for hours, why ? because when we told them our names they knew we were Catholic.
Oh yes Bono you lived in the relative comfort of Dublin but you didn’t live here for 30 years as I did, so therefore he doesn’t have room to blow his own trumpet.
Fireside politicians I call these people, ok he does probably good work in some areas, but he didn’t live here so,I won’t be voting for any of them.

Bono was the product of a mixed inter-faith marriage where I have been told was at the time similar to a black-white couple geting married in the American south in the 60s.No…it wasn’t the same as political oppression and he didn’t have to endure bombings but his life in Dublin was far from comfortable. He had to endure one side of his family refusing to talk to the to the to the other and simply because the one side was Catholic or the other side was Protestant Going to this church or that church… He wasn’t reading about all this in the papers… He was living the divisions in his own life… Can we blame him for him doing what he could for the situation? I would have been surprised had he NOT gotten involved.

He has also talked about the fights he got into…the things thrown at him…the names called from BOTH Catholics and Protestants.

And to add to all that…His mother literally dropped dead in front of his eyes when he was young.

Not really a pleasant childhood.

He could have become an extremely angry young man but he didn’t.

I had already voted btw… 🙂

Actually, what I was saying was:

Why would I want to vote in such a competition, at all? I saw it as not having any particular purpose that fit in with the theme of this Catholic Answers forum.

:nope:

It doesn’t matter for how long it takes for me to do what you’re asking me to do without telling me why I’d want to “play along” with that game of “Gotcha” or I would even care – other than that someone I’ve never met asked me to do them a favor.

I’m not trying to be rude here. I just don’t run with scissors.
