Catholic Civil Rights League in Canada has issued a letter to The Honourable Aileen Carroll, Minister of International Cooperation. The letter objects to the use of taxpayer’s money through the Canadian International Development Agency to support Judy Rebick’s website rabble.ca on which she has published a libellous anti-Catholic cartoon.

ccrl.ca/index.php?id=240

rabble.ca/

The cartoon depicts Pope Benedict marching up to a statue of the Virgin Mary, raising his hand in a Nazi Salute, and saying 'Heil.'

This is only one step toward giving abortion activist Dr Henry Morgentaler the highest honour in the nation, the Order of Canada. The New Democratic Party has invited Ms Rebick to be the guest speaker at a special screening of Choice (a movie on Morgentaler) on 31 May at Aoelian Hall at Western University. This screen is 2 weeks before Western gives Morgentaler and Doris Anderson (another abortion activist) the honorary Doctor of Laws.

Scroll down on the right side of the page. The question is:

Should the website, rabble.ca, be investigated under Canada’s hate laws for depicting the Pope in a nazi salute to the virgin Mary, while uttering the words “Heil Mary”?

Absolutely, and the Canadian government’s sponsorship of the website through CIDA should be withdrawn immediately.http://www.cfra.com/images/redline.gif61.8%

No, this is not hate, it is satire.http://www.cfra.com/images/redline.gif38.1%

Oh my goodness!
I am shocked to say the least…at first reading comments made by the folks in the rabble site just made my head nod…but reading more and more of there comments really bothered me. I am just sadded by their remarks about the catholic church.

Just checked the poll today, Sunday, May 29 and of the 6, 830 votes 58.7% think the cartoon of the pope is harmless satire. Like Anhus said the comments on the rabble forum are extremely hostile and worrisome. The climate in Canada is increasingly dangerous for faith-based people and if Catholics can’t see the writing on the wall this not so subtle promotion of hatred will increase as they become more and more emboldened.

The Toronto Star featured a full page length article last winter in which a humanist openly suggested, in a nationwide newspaper mind you, that religious people are fanatics and therefore a threat to homeland security. In their minds all traditional believers, like Catholics, fundamentalists and evangelicals are on par with Muslim terrorists. He recommended forced medication and psychiatric treatment for their diseased minds.

I wrote to the editor and reminded him that these were communist tactics for dealing with political undesirables.

It is all extremely ominous as the clash of cultures is surely escalating.

So take your cue from Ani and take a moment to at least vote.

Rebick has responded to the Catholic Civil Rights League allegations. She says the Pope cartoon is satire not hate. She adds that nobody thinks it is hate except “those Catholic nuts.”

Satire? Read this and tell me if it is satire. Scroll down to where Reality Bites explains where Catholics can insert their crucifixes. And it gets worse.

rabble.ca/babble/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=37&t=000464

These hate posters were not even rapped on the knuckles by Rebick. Yet anyone inquiring into the funding allegations has been suspended.

Rebick says that rabble became a non-profit organization and therefore is not funded by taxpayers’ money. The point is that without partnership with Oneworld, Rebick would not have enough alternative newsourcing to run her alternative website. The thing is that Oneworld has strict requirements of their partners to not engage in religious intolerance. Rebick has violated this partnership agreement again and again and again.

As for Rosalinda’s implication of the Toronto Star. The Toronto Star was the original start-up funder of rabble through their Atkinson Foundation grants. So much for democracy.

Rosalinda, if you can find the link to that Star article, can you post it and we’ll send it off to CCRL. The Star needs to be taken down a few pegs with this kind of drivel and with funding Rebick.

There is a thread somewhere on here or in Ecclesia Mundi giving email addresses of members of parliament. It may also be worthwhile phoning Jack Layton himself and asking him to withdraw Judy Rebick as guest speaker on 31 May at Aoelian Hall at University of Western Ontario. Explain that it is not just because of the Pope cartoon, it is also about the unchecked horrific hatred towrad Catholics on her discussion board. And give the link.

Right now with nearly 7,000 votes, it is about 59% saying that this is not hate, it is satire.

When you consider that a good number of us in Catholic Internet communities have caught wind of this and have voted in this poll, imagine what the numbers would be were it just the station and its typical web site viewers. Very sad.

On the whole, Canada is in a pathetic state morally, is it not?

Yes, we are pathetic. :crying:

Ani, I did some springcleaning and trashed that article of almost 1500 words. Even so, I did find the letter to the editor of the Toronto Star written last January which helped with the exact date, author and title. It is in the TS archives but one must pay to retrieve it. Hopefully, the quotation from my letter will give you the gist of the it.

"Religious Extremism is Back" by Olivia Ward Jan. 2. The overall tone of the article was disturbing in its broad brushstroke treatment of people trying to live peaceful, honest and moral lives in friendship with God. If there is any reason to fear extremism and intolerance it is clearly not a trait exclusive to ‘fundamentalists’ but core to many secular humanists.

**George Dvorsky sounds like he is inciting hatred: **"If society can force drug addicts into rehabilitation because they’re a danger to themselves and the public, then we should be able to compel religious fundamentalists to undergo treatment as well."

****A good number of Canadians remember communist ideologues who used those same arguments to murder, starve, imprison, torture and brainwash millions of Christians in the former Soviet Union. More than 6 million Ukrainian Catholics died under the dictatorship of Stalin to give just one example of the 100 million people who died for their faith during the 20th. century.

State persecution begins with dehumanizing language, ridicule and the demonization of a targeted minority. The mainstream media’s contempt for Christians is no longer thinly veiled: with that comment the threshold of tolerance was passed."

**They received it all right because they called for verification purposes. **

I hope this helps your peace of mind some - this is something I learned during the Presidential election. The left is extremely organized with regard to these media polls, whether they’re on CNN, ABC, Newsweek, etc.

For instance, support for Kerry was running as high as 79% at one of the media polls in the last days before the election. Virtually ALL of the media polls (radio, television, newsrags) showed Kerry with 4-10 points in the last week. So how did he lose by almost four points?

It’s because of this network of dedicated people on the left who flood the polls by turning their computers into voting bots in order to make the public think that support for their idea/candidate is a lot higher than it is. Add to it the fact that most media is solidly liberal, anti-Christian, pro-abortion, anti-military etc. and you have a marriage made in heaven as far as the two groups are concerned. Some media polls don’t even bother to put the most rudimentary blocks on voting more than once, and even with the ones who do, getting around the blocks is trivial.

You also have to remember that it’s pretty much open season on Christians - especially Catholic. Heaven forbid that you even question the existence of Gaia or the veracity of the claims of Mohammed, but you can get away with even something this disgusting as long as it’s Christians that you’re targeting. If I noticed this and fought it while I still considered myself a pagan, how much more clear it must be to lifelong Christians, hm?

The people with scruples play by the rules. The people who have an agenda that they are passionate about do not - the end justifies the means. That’s what you’re up against.

On the bright side, the cause is not as hopeless as it looks, just looking at a media poll. I’ll bet that in reality, the numbers are at least polar opposites and maybe even better than merely switched.

If you ignore all media polls, your life suddenly becomes much more peaceful, because you’re not angry at data that is patently false and intentionally misleading. You’re not jousting at windmills. We learned to just let them have the media polls. Make it clear that you’re ceding all media polls because they’re skewed and faked. Sometimes, they were so clearly and obviously faked that the media didn’t even bother to use them! 🙂

We took up the motto: “Work on the only poll that really counts - the election.” In this case, the only poll that really counts would be described another way, but I’m sure you get what I mean. You’ll want to organize letter-writing campaigns demanding that the government investigate this incident under the hate-crimes law. Don’t let the media poll mislead you into thinking that things are as bad as they look.

There’s a silver lining, but there’s a lot of work to be done, too. Good luck and God bless you in your efforts.

Elizabeth

Ani,I followed your thread to the comment about the crucifix. As the message by RealityBites was edited I dare not imagine how much worse the original could have been. The website Equal Rights for Gays and Lesbians Everywhere spews out anti-Catholicism but this is even more venomous. It is like having raw meat forcably shoved down one’s throat. How out-of-control can one’s anger be to use such language and blasphemous imagery?

Thanks, Ani…I voted…but the number is only at 42% :crying:

Blessings,
Shoshana

Well, the rabble rousers are furious with the protest mounted by the Catholic Civil Rights League. If anyone wants to see why that cartoon is so dangerous be forwarned the language is so hot it might melt your computer screen. If that isn’t promoting hatred against Catholics what is?

rabble.ca/babble/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=15&t=000639
Thanks for the headsup Rosalinda. I have been on the phone to my mp and then, given that there are no Conservative mps in Toronto, I phoned Colin Carrie in Oshawa also. Get this…Carrie took on rabble last summer! Apparently rabble was crossing the line about him being Catholic and an ex-Knight of Columbus.

As soon as I told the Carrie guy that the NDP had invited Judy Rebick to be guest speaker at the special screening of Choice (the Morgentaler movie) on 31 May at 7 pm at Aoelian Hall at Western, he got the whole connection. He asked why there had been no publicity. I said, you figure it out. It hasn’t been in one single newsbite. William Vandoodewaard has it on his newsblog though.

Davenport and his crew are organized and have all their people in place. They have presented an offensive on multiple fronts, even down to shaming the Bank of Montreal into giving them a 1.5$ donation. Bank of Montreal used to be pro-life.

You wait and see if Judy Rebick doesnt recommend Morgentaler for the Order of Canada tomorrow at her little NDP-fest.

The University of Western has a multi-faceted campaign going on to further their culture of death agenda. There is a congress going on at UWO until June 5 and May31 article in the Free Press, “Bush reduced Americans to ‘terrorist’ level, prof says” American professor Mark Juergensmeyer, director of global and international studies at the Univ. of Calif. gave a talk condemning response to the terrorist attacks Sept.,2001. He noted religious extremists responsible for the bombing of abortion clinics.

If the message wasn’t clear enough in context with the Morgent. security worries at the upcoming convocation ceremony June 16, the end of the article really drove home the point. Marsha Hewitt, a social ethics prof from Toronto said resistance to modern secularism is a common feature of religious fundamentalism.
“Every religion has axiomatic, non-negotiable beliefs.” To have a stable and tolerant socieity which protects religious freedom, “constitutional democracy, the rule of law and human rights have to trump religious beliefs.”

An axiom is a self-evident or universally recognized truth; obviously she denies the existence of absolute truth. In Canada, under the Charter the rule of law is whatever the judges decide it will be through expansive interpretation. Human rights which do not exist are created out of thin air and a woman’s right to choose includes the right to choose life or death for her unborn child.

Morgentaler supporters plan rally to celebrate canoe.ca/NewsStand/LondonFreePress/News/2005/05/31/1064136-sun.html

The proabortionists have decided to rally on June 16 while Canada’s most notorious abortion supporters receive their awards so that they can celebrate their victory. The organizer claims it will be an upbeat, happy rally with food and music but nothing too political.

Anybody who can feast and dance in the streets over the deaths of almost 3 million aborted children is heartless and without conscience. The prolifers should all stand solemnly dressed in black with mourning veils to heighten the contrast. The funeral mourners verses the circus performers.

Hi Rosalinda. I understand that the pro-life group will engage in a silent protest on the 16th. Is it only me or is London Free Press seeming more pro-abortion in the last week or two? Where is Gooden? We gave him a number of scoops but he hasn’t done anything with them.

Judy Rebick was in Newfoundland last weekend on a book promotion tour and she had this to report in her blog Sunday, May 29.

"While I was in Moncton, all hell broke loose with the Ottawa Citizen running a front page article about a cartoon making fun of the pope on rabble. You can read about it on **babble **if you want or watch a discussion of it on Mike Duffy’s show and scroll down to Mike Duffy’s show. You can see the original cartoon on rabble’s front page at the top left hand corner. Enjoy. "

Sorry, but Judy Rebick is someone who, in my opinion, badly needs a stiff dose of humanity.

Ani, I scoured the Free Press this morning for a report about the silent protest you mentionned but the parade over the winning hockey team seems to have overshadowed our silent prolifers. Then again we did have two large articles today in the FP so the children may have stolen the show.

On a sideline, have you ever seen Grannies for Peace? They dress ridiculously with showy hats, loud, brightly - coloured clothing and even though they may be no more than a handful they always seem to catch the media eye. Is it possible we have to set aside our vanity and dress like fools for Christ? There are two extremes here either we dress all in black and mourning, possibly even in sack cloth and ashes, or we go with the ‘crazy grannies’ approach.
Then again maybe with the media bias they wouldn’t photograph pro-lifers even if we stood on our heads.
